Republican Lou Barletta: House has enough votes to impeach Obama

http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2014/06/barletta_impeach_obama.html

Rep. Lou Barletta is making headlines this morning with suggestions that the House "probably" has the votes to impeach President Obama.

The Hazleton Republican, who represents the 11th congressional district, which includes parts of Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry counties, first articulated his thoughts on the Gary Sutton radio show on Monday.

On Tuesday morning, Politico.com reports that on the radio show Barletta said of the president: "He's just absolutely ignoring the Constitution, and ignoring the laws and ignoring the checks and balances. The problem is, what do you do? For those that say impeach him for breaking the laws of bypassing the laws — could that pass in the House? It probably could. Is the majority of the American people in favor of impeaching the president? I'm not sure."

Barletta spokesman weighed in on the discussion. Tim Murtaugh told the Wilkes Barre Times-Leader that while Barletta believed the House had the votes to impeach the president, the Senate would probably not approve.

Every day one of these assholes chirps about impeaching Obama, and every day passes without any action. Spineless cowards. I wish they would. The whirlwind they would reap would cost them the House and any chance of the Senate. They would be known as the party that used impeachment twice in the last generation to try to accomplish what they couldn't at the ballot box.

We need a middle finger emoticon. I'd put a whole line of them here.

convict, but it will be the end of the republican party

They won't do it though. It is just like Rachael pointed out, they were screaming at Obama to invade Syria, and when Obama said that if Congress believes that then let them do it, they have the Constitutional ability to do so. Guess what, Congress wouldn't even bring it up for a vote. They are chicken hawks, and chicken shits, and they have fooled a lot of idiots in this country

Which would have made it a useless presidency. For that obvious and correct calculation, you want to impeach. Nothing else will do.

Here you are:

Obama is the chef who opens a new restaurant and serves honest good and beautifully prepared food made of the most wholesome ingredients only to have the food critic pan his offerings as "all too ordinary." "Where," asks the seen-it-all jaded bored critic, "are the calf's brains marinated in truffle-soaked baby duck's testicles?"

If he had prosecuted the criminals, the already on their heels republicans would have been even further set back and undercut in their ability to block and criticize Obama. That is the politics

Now for the law. Failure to prosecute this Bush cabal not only makes it possible for these kind of crimes to be committed again in our country, but undercuts the law world wide. It also makes it possible for these war criminals to go tv, proclaim their crimes as right, but also that we engage in more of them. The powerful must not be allowed to evade justice for the harm it causes the country now and in the future is massively destructive. This is not a minor failure of Obama, but a serious major one

We no longer have the rule of law in this country

For the rule of law to be more than a lawless tool used to imprison the impoverished, for the rule of law to actually exist, we can not have the wealthy and politicians as a class above the law. Proclaiming that criminals will not be investigated and convicted if proven guilty is obstruction and the act of an accomplice, making the one shielding the criminals a criminal as well. We may not like these facts, but they are facts.

It has nothing to do with "settling scores" anymore than prosecuting a bank robbery is, it is called justice and the rule of law. Banana republics don't understand justice, nor do those that cheer on the lack of it, if Obama wanted to forgive war crimes or trillion dollar thieves in the banking industry the legal way to do so is with pardons, "looking forward" beyond crimes and refusing to investigate well heeled criminals is not an actual legal defense. Some appear to think only some people are bound by our laws, pathetic.

You can't have it both ways, either we are all bound by the law, or none of us should be, unless one believes a banana republic is what our country should be. Who do you think (if any) should not be bound by the laws of the land? Obama can still direct his justice department to investigate war crimes and if he still believes those crimes are OK when done by those in high political office he has a legal power we do not have and that is to pardon them, he can therefore "look forward" beyond crimes without committing any himself if he so chooses.

I think we should all be held accountable under the laws of this country. What is your view? if you can't answer this question there is nothing for us to discuss because that is what I am discussing and I will not go off into the weeds with you on some distraction.

I image "getting elected while being a Democrat" or "Being elected while black" are not illegal so the only actual charges they could bring would have to do with obstructing justice or being an accessory after the fact in war crimes, but they would have to charge their own as well to pursue those charges so it will never happen.

Without charges regarding specific law breaking they have nothing to impeach him over and are simply full of shit.

Ultimately this sort of thing is what's going to destroy American democracy; these ongoing battles of democratic legitimacy between the executive and legislative, where a party with a legislative majority wields impeachment as a blunt instrument to remove a president of the other party. This is essentially what happened when Clinton was in office (Lewinsky was a convenient pretext).
