Fasten your seat belts - Iran saving democracy in Iraq

Fasten your seat belts - Iran saving democracy in Iraq

When Tikrit fell, ISIL (also known as ISIS) threatened to march on Baghdad. That's when Iran made its presence known. By June 10, Iran Revolutionary Guard (IRG) units along with the elite Quds Force confronted ISIL in Tikrit. Iran's president, Hassan Rouhan i, announced, "We will combat violence, extremism and terrorism in the region and the world."

As the Iraqi Army fled the battle, Iranian forces challenged ISIL in Tikrit. Around the same time, the White House indicated that it was considering air strikes against ISIL. Reports by the Wall Street Journal indicate that Iran's effort in Tikrit turned the tide. In the meantime, Iraqi military forces are more engaged in defending their country.

Irony Abounds

Fasten your seat belts: Iranians saving their influence over a country governed by a blatantly non-liberal majoritarian system.

It's their allies they're defending. And while a strictly majoritarian system is a kind of democracy, it's not what we usually mean. It's a Shi'ite country run for Shi'ites, with the exception of the Kurds. They mustered enough political power and influence to basically run their own semi-autonomous state.

The Iranians want to fight to preserve oppression of Sunnis. Harshly put, but more accurate than the headline.

in a stable Iraq. I hope for everyone there to be okay. But I saw the headline at huffington showing a massacre by the fuckers of a mass of people. Iraq's assholes are just like anyone elses.

It's a like the Hunger Games ring. A shit load of alliances going different directions but ultimately everyone is just in it for themselves. If you are going to play chess you better be able to see 4 or 5 moves ahead and we seem to be sucking at chess these days.
