Now why would I do that???? Maybe--- just maybe---it's because the other candidate will be a fucking white Male Republican.

(5,082 posts)She comes off as disingenuous, fake, craven, pompous and tone deaf. I don't trust her...she's like a used car salesman. No wonder she is a military industrial complex supporting hawk. I want Warren but yeah we know she isn't running. Maybe we can convince her. I know a lot of people that won't vote if it's Clinton vs Bush. They don't care about the lesser of two evils argument anymore as its pushed them to believe only radical, systemic change will mean anything now. This is of course the fault of moderates who pushed the center to the right and viable supporters out of the process with cynicism. I do like that she acts like a fighter...something Obama could use but it means nothing without trust. Being forced into a choice between two candidates that won't represent us isn't going to float much longer. Thinking it will is a static view and history as it occurs is dynamic. Threatening people with another Bush is no way to win support, hope and eventually change. Dead broke huh? Is she kidding? That's beyond a gaffe. It's calculated stupidity and loftiness.

Everyone talks about Warren. She's the current darling of the party. Do I like her? Sure, I think she's great but I don't think she's ready for such a stage. I'll be proud to campaign, to donate, and to vote for HRC if she really does it in 2016.

(2,312 posts)Bring FDR back to life, give him or candidates Warren, Clinton or even a Bernie Sanders the same Congress President Obama has had to deal with and we get the same stalemate and inaction.
It's simple math. We need the White House 1st, but the House and Senate are also indispensible. We live in a system slanted heavily in favor small rural states. Republican gerrymandering in 2011, and Democratic concentration in cities and major population centers, has made that advantage more onerous for us.
Ignore that fact at our peril.

(9,081 posts)Here's a take on some of his ideas:
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2014/06/09/schweitzers_bizarre_strategy_for_challenging_hillary_clinton_122904.html
..... As Ron Paul wrote in 2010: One of the most important sectors of the economy, the banking sector, was already quasi-socialist or corporatist. The Federal Reserve, with its monopoly powers and its chairman and governors appointed by the president, has been an extra-constitutional branch of government since its creation in 1913.
Thats how libertarians view the central bank and the involvement of government to regulate the banking system. And yes, Woodrow Wilson had to compromise between progressives and bankers in order to get it through Congress. But Franklin D. Roosevelt had to balance those interests as well when he expanded the Federal Reserves power over monetary policy. And no one in the Democratic Party with any political ambitions would dare call FDR a corporatist, let alone a violator of the Constitution on behalf of the banks.
So which of these baseless critiques of Wilson is Schweitzer embracing? And what does it say about his fundamental philosophy when he traffics in such shoddy history?

(2,785 posts)Every Democrat should vote for who our nominee is. You would think these folks would've have learned not to fall for the both parties are exactly the same meme after the 2000 election. The Ralph Nader's of the world can afford to tell you we should impeach our President or the Jesse Venturas of the world can claim to be for labor rights while rubbing elbows with Alex Jones and Ron Paul and that we should not support our nominee in the general election because both parties are the same according to them. Whoever the next President is will have some power to enact policies that will affect the daily lives of Americans. Will not affect the Venturas and Naders of the world as badly, because they have money. They could use social security, but they will not will not need as badly as most Americans. Food stamps will continue to be cut under a Republican President not that Nader and Ventura need those at all. National minimum wage increase. Might as well forget about it with a repuke in office.
Labors rights gutted. Gun control forget about that too. Roe vs Wade will be overturned by the even more Republican supreme court, and we will not be able to fix that any time in the foreseeable future. Suppressing Democratic turnout during the election will be a disaster. For it will also affect down ballot elections making it much harder in Republican states to ever get medicaid expanded.

(53,010 posts)The more moaning I read about how awful a hypothetical Clinton nominee is, the more I am likely to support her in the primaries.
My general approach is to not worry about candidates until there is an actual election. (Yeah, I know I'm nutty that way). I then look at their qualifications, watch the debates, and make a decision. However, given the derangement over a fantasy presidential candidate, I think I just might decide to support her now. The temper tantrums about how they'll be mad if the perfect candidate isn't handed to them on a silver platter are beyond irritating. If they want a certain candidate or type of candidate, they should damn well work for it rather than sitting around and moaning how they won't vote Democrat if they don't get their way. That tells me they aren't really Democrats anyway, and given the fact a number take reactionary positions on a host of issues, I'm not surprised they would further along the GOP's political prospects.

(114 posts)Last time around I changed my registration to vote Newt in the primary in order to extend the republican primary bloodbath and make Mitt spend more money. I felt so dirty during this process that I had to wash my hands ten times a day. After the primary, I couldn't switch back to democrat quickly enough.
This time around, I need to vote for Bernie or Elizabeth in the primary in order to make the progressive statement in hopes that the ensuing discussion might cause Hillary to sway at least a bit to the left.
Of course I'll be 100% behind Hillary in the general election. It is our responsibility to do everything we can to prevent republicans from attaining any power at all.

(2,570 posts)in the lead up to the 2012 election, given their profuse whining and worse about how those expressing concerns or criticisms of BHO over this and that at the time were traitors, etc, trying to throw the election. If anyone is gonna push people away, it's likely gonna be the wouldbe censors who would deny the right to be critical of her as has been attempted with BHO. The ways and means with which they've sought to accomplish that will no doubt have a role in pushing some over the apathy/disillusionment/dissatisfied cliff as well. It's one thing to be dissatisfied with a pol over this and that, while quite another to be told to "sit down and shut up traitor/Bushbot?Romneyite/etc".
As anyone with the political acumen and analytical skills of a 5th grader could figure out, the fear of the naked (and increasing still) rightwingnuttery will compel most to stay in the fold and make another "lesser of two evils" choice, and even most those who've been smart enough to come to learn and understand this is how the game has been rigged to work for rightwing interests in the good cop/bad cop game, largely because of the astronomical weight that must be given to the SCOTUS appointment thingy.
Her candidacy, win or lose, likely means an escalation in dem intra-party warfare of the kind we've seen throughout most of the BHO presidency, so let's all keep our rhetorical knives sharp, no?
