Tickets go on sale for low-cost carrier PEOPLExpress

PEOPLExpress, the start-up airline resurrecting the brand of one of the first U.S. low-cost carriers, has started ticket sales.

The carrier will begin flights between Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport and seven destinations on June 30. Introductory rates will start as low as $76 each way.

"After months of preparation, we are excited to start selling tickets to create a fun, creative and innovative approach to air travel and dispel the myth that low air fares have to mean low service or an impersonal experience," Jeff Erickson, CEO of PEOPLExpress, said in a written statement.

PEOPLExpress will begin with two daily round-trip flights between Newport News and Newark, and one daily round-trip flight to both Boston and Pittsburgh.

I don't remember much about it, except we had to fly up to Newark and have a looooong layover before flying down to Florida.
