That was the plan. Trading Gitmo prisoners was forbidden, no one was going to send helicopters and commandos into Pakistan to free him, and the Haqqanis/Taliban weren't just going to nicely give him a plane ticket home. The anger is because the White House and the DoD and State Dept. managed to pull off a pretty huge and successful operation in a totally airtight manner that thwarted the plan to let Bergdahl die. Dianne Feinstein didn't get a second chance to deny this soldier a chance for freedom with her leaky-ass stupid mouth, and boy, she's pissed.
