MOSCOW - Edward Snowden has been invited to judge an award ceremony honoring Internet journalism in Russia.
The head of radio station Echo Moskvi has asked the former NSA contractor to a moderator on a panel at the so-called Russian Internet Media Awards later this year.
Editor-in-chief Alexey Venediktov organizes the ceremony and said the judges will also introduce a special "Snowden Award" for investigative journalism.
"We got in touch with him this April for the first time and suggested to name the award after him," Venediktov told NBC News. "He agreed."
"Secondly, we suggested him to join the jury, but he has not replied to us yet. We hope to get his answer in June."

The 13 Most Bizarre Things from Edward Snowdens NBC News Interview
snip///
Last night, while watching Brian Williams interview with Ed Snowden, I actually agreed with Glenn Greenwald about something. Back in 2012, Greenwald referred to Williams as NBC News top hagiographer, using his reverent, soothing, self-important baritone to deliver information in its purest, most propagandistic, and most subservient form.
Its worth noting at the outset that Greenwald flew all the way to Moscow specifically for the NBC News interview, and he appeared on camera with Snowden and Williams, answering questions from this so-called hagiographer.

1) Snowden claimed he has no relationship with the Russian government and that hes not supported by it.
2) Sometimes to do the right thing you have to break a law.
4) Early on, Snowden said, Im not a spy. Later he famously confessed to being trained as a spy. Huh?

12) People have unfairly demonized the NSA to a point that is too extreme. Why is Snowden an apologist for the surveillance state? Drooling! Vast!

"Ultimately, Snowden is his own worst enemy and his ongoing ability to say crazy things in a calm, collected voice continues. Whats abundantly clear at this point is that no one will ever land an interview with Snowden who will be as adversarial against the former NSA contractor as Greenwald has been in his own reporting in defense of Snowden. Itll never happen."

(930 posts)should never come back to the U.S. He would face a kangaroo court of NSA lawyers and media spin-meisters that would twist and turn his every utterance into a lie or something sinister. I guess in your world Goliath wins every time if it involves something embarrassing with the president. Question: what would your take be if the Snowden flap was on GW Bush's watch? Be honest now.

(17,656 posts)You can be sure of one thing --- he craves all of this attention.
And he fits the profile of a narcissistic psychopath to a "tee".
Anybody that would be so bold as to go on tv and brag about stealing American secrets is not only a narcissist, he's an idiot!!
Although I think it may have been bad form for Brian Williams to interview Snowden, it was important for the world to hear from Snowden himself . . . so he could tell his story in his own words, answer a few questions, and then watch him contradict himself as he tried to avoid talking himself in to a logical trap of his own making.
What most people don't realize is that Snowden is not a hero for taking it upon himself to steal secrets, because he is mentally ill.
Charles Manson, Ted Bundy, the Unabomber, and Timothy McVeigh were all narcissistic psychopaths who justified their actions according to their own warped view of justice that they had in their heads.
Snowden is no different.
Snowden doesn't think he was wrong, and he was trying to talk Brian Williams into thinking the same way about him.
I don't think he succeeded.

tell all the secrets I want.. after all I sent 10 emails to the NSA that I have no proof of but you are to believe it anyway."
Speaking of Narcissistic.. yes, it's written all over him.. It's alright for him to break the law but nobody else can. He makes me sick.. so above the law and whining from Russia about coming home and then when he's told what will happen because just because he thinks he's above the law he really isn't.. he starts whining again. He needs to bring his pacifier to his next tv extravaganza.
2) Sometimes to do the right thing you have to break a law. So its really up to each of us individually to decide whether our own interpretation of doing the right thing necessitates breaking the law? A lot of awful things have occurred with that exact justification. Also, what if NSA feels the same way, Ed?

IIRC, Snowden has repeatedly refused all interview requests from Russian investigative reporters (even the ones who are perfectly fluent in English, so there's no language barrier excuse)...So I'm guessing this is their way of getting their foot in the door?
