You have to be a dog lover... (update #2)

Last edited Fri May 30, 2014, 02:04 PM - Edit history (2)

UPDATE: Steve got home about 1/2 hour ago. It has been about 10 hours now since Indy's last seizure. This is the second time they have had to go to an all night vet for this.

Update #2: Indy went home late last night. It has been just over 24 hours since his last seizure.

OS

My son has been at the vet's since 1 AM. They can't get Indy's violent seizures to stop. It is not good. Indy is family.

We had an Aussie with hard to control seizures- lots of phenobarbital and potassium bromide. I think it was the potassium bromide that they eventually added that helped reduce them to about once per month. Old medicine, not used much anymore.

Hope pup pulls out of this cluster.

Phenobarbital was what I had to give him to try and manage them. It worked for a couple years but I eventually had to have him put down because of the issue. He had a seizure while I was not home and severely injured (broke) his neck and was unable walk and in horrible pain. Second worst day of my life. U have my heartfelt empathy.

I hope they can find a medical way to treat them. There are now more drugs available for both feline and canine seizures, so there's a good chance for Indy.

If they can and Indy comes home on daily medication, canine Pill Pockets are a great way to get pills into her/him.

Sometimes I think it's harder when our four footed family members get sick than when our two footed members do.

http://www.cnn.com/2013/08/07/health/charlotte-child-medical-marijuana/

"We were pioneering the whole thing; we were guinea pigging Charlotte," Paige said. "This is a federally illegal substance. I was terrified to be honest with you."

But the results were stunning.

"When she didn't have those three, four seizures that first hour, that was the first sign," Paige recalled. "And I thought well, 'Let's go another hour, this has got to be a fluke.' "

The seizures stopped for another hour. And for the following seven days.

Much more on link.

It's expensive for now and may not be legal where you live but if you have the means it could be worth a try.

Thanks for the thread, Omaha Steve.

Violent seizures. Thousands of dollars three vets one specialist and no answers...they were dying one worse than the others.

I changed dog foods...used burger meat nothing helped...little did I know what was killing my children...
Then I totally stopped giving them rawhide...

I normally bought from walmart but tried others food lion other grocery stores...it didn't help they just randomly had violent seizures one hour after eating or even many hours to a day later.

I don't give a FUCK if the FDA says the rawhide treats are safe or the fact they are inept or lying to us...

I only know since I have TOTALLY stopped giving my dogs rawhide NONE of them have had a seizure in 5 months NONE ZERO ZILCH NOT ONE SEIZURE since I stopped giving them rawhide...

My vets I have all informed say they believe it is either melanin or toxic metal poisoning but they have no proof from all the blood tests...evidentally the levels build up to toxic levels quickly but then flush fast if the liver and kidneys are functioning well...thany god babies are ok...

They grew up chewing raw hide so the only conclusion I can make is something in the last 6 years has changed!!!!!!!!!!!!! in how they process rawhide or possibly who is processing it...

One note...a bowl of cold milk at onset of seizures reduced or ended the violent seizures. Or stopped them temporarily...

And do you have fertilizers on your lawn or anywhere? Or any gardening additives such as cocoa mulch? And what is your water source. I ask because I had a Wheaten that used to have sizers a lot and we made some changes that helped him a lot. He had no more seizures for years until an hour before he passed.
