Swearing off bad language: Russia bans cussing in films, books, music

(CNN) -- Thinking about making a film? Better leave out the foul language if you want it to be seen in Russia. The same goes for plays. Even rock stars will need to leave their potty mouths at home.
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed off on a new law Monday that bans swearing at arts, cultural and entertainment events in the country.
Any new film containing obscene language won't be granted a distribution certificate, so there's no chance of seeing it at the movie theater.
And copies of books, CDs or films containing swearing can only be distributed in a sealed package labeled "Contains obscene language," a Kremlin statement said.

(22,336 posts)Films, movies, and books are not banned - they have to be sealed and have a label, but they can still be distributed so they are obviously not banned.
It's the public displays that are not allowed.
However, I am not a fan of this at all.
It's worrying watching him become more and more zealous. Where is he headed? It isn't anyplace good.

(6,238 posts)and maybe he isn't, but between this and the anti-LGBT laws he seems to be moving in that direction. I'm not sure what he has to gain from these kinds of laws unless it's stronger support from far-right elements within the Orthodox Church.

(67,104 posts)down of the populace bit by bit to total submission. He wants to restore the USSR and rule with an iron hand with a team of hard liners. He's using psychological tricks. Some will love hating LGBT, some will see the latest as great moral principles. That's the face value, and some will buy into it naively and love it, but the plan is total submission to the supreme authority.

(13,081 posts)He represented the Russian Church.
First he helped the farmer. When the winds changed, he helped the pigs. This is the Tsar and Stalin.
Looks like there's a new farmer running the Animal Farm (which, coincidentally, seems to lend credence to Marx's theory of history, the whole thesis-antithesis-synthesis thing).
