Yikes DU - can't believe no buzz about the

Correspondent's dinner ???

Initial reaction - McHale was mean and had no redeeming value -- the trait of a great comedian -- can slam and praise at the same time. McHale just slammed. Just my opinion.

Troubling to me about Obama - he just laughed off Guantanamo closing - and seems to have given up. On one hand - can't blame him - on the other hand WTF = we need you.

He seemed like a graduate of the Dennis Miller Academy of Not Funny.

Obama was good; I just watched the Joe Biden / Julia Louise Dreyfus skit. I thought that was good, too.

seemed so sad to me - Obama once would have had a standing ovation. It's like he's given up. Can't blame him. what a fucked up opportunity.

He had some good jokes, but in addition to being very harsh, his timing was off. He seemed poorly prepared, was reading from notes, and even apologized after a joke about Biden. A comedian can get away with more when he's funny, and delivery is a big part of comedy. His sucked.

sin was never being lighthearted with humor....Obviously he had to
win the crowd in. He didn't - his applause was so short - it was
equal to a no-name pre-show announcer.

His Christie bit was funny - but really??? he had to add a weight joke?

but if was a reference to HW Bush in the first gulf war and then W Bush in Iraq. The implication was Jeb would lead another war on Iraq.

As for reading off cards, one doesn't expect it from a professional comedian. They are professional performers. Also timing is crucial for a comic. This guy has none.

I thought McHale was a bit "edgy" but that's what he needed to do. If he hadn't been, he would have been accused of tiptoeing. I think he did fine.

You seriously wanted Obama to "do" something about that Gitmo snark? You do know that it's not UP to him--Congress is blocking him on that issue. He can't override.

There are plenty of threads about the dinner, some busier than others.
