Global Warming, Republicans, and Florida voters

It just occurred to me that when Floridites vote for Republicans who refuse to acknowledge global warming or take action against it, they are voting for most of their state to no longer exist.

Even if you don't care about the environment, the fate of the human race, or the planet, you might care about property values dropping to zero because the property in question is underwater.

Come to think of it, even if you didn't believe in global warming, wouldn't you be worried that so many other people do, that your property value would drop even if the state doesn't become a large coral reef?

For most of us, global warming is a question of how much of an inconvenience and disruption it will ultimately become.

For people who live on what is essentially a wide sandbar in the ocean, it seems like they would take it a lot more seriously.

we went to one of the canyons to try to evacuate people because we knew a flood was coming, and it would be deadly. We talked to a family for over an hour explaining this. The dad and mom simply refused to acknowledge that perhaps, maybe, I don't know, we had something here. (And yes, it was raining cats and dogs)

For a change we could not force them to leave (as I did not have an army platoon to give me any kind of backup)

To make a long story short, we ended up doing body recovery three days later.

Many of the voters in Florida strike me like these folks. It matters not what you show them. They are in the depths of denial And metaphorically, we will do body recovery as well, as we get climate refugees.

It's now to the point that Miami Beach floods pretty regularly at high tides, and they're installing about $400 million in extra storm drain systems.

But don't you dare talk about sea level rise! Especially if you're a Republican (or a Republican NC Legislature member, where they literally outlawed taking sea level rise into consideration in zoning and transportation planning.

But not in a good way. We're talking periods when the water gets really high-with or without rain. Now we are living through a traffic and construction nightmare while they work on the new pumps- I just hope they do what they are supposed to do when it's all completed. We shall see...
