Rick Perry receives the "Kiss of Death"

Dick Morris: Rick Perry Can Make Comeback

In the beginning, Dewey begat Eisenhower. Eisenhower begat Nixon. Nixon begat Ford. Reagan lost to Ford, and then it was his turn. Then Reagan begat Bush-41. Dole had lost to Bush-41, and then it was his turn to try. Bush-41, literally, begat Bush-43. McCain lost to Bush-43, and then it was his turn. Romney lost to McCain, and then his turn came.

What does this predict for 2016? Of the defeated candidates left over from 2012, Santorum is probably too focused on social issues to win. Cain and Bachmann can be dismissed as flashes in the pan, and the problems that knocked them out of contention have not gone away. Romney probably won’t get a third chance. Even Nixon only got two. Newt inflicted too many wounds on others and on himself.

That leaves Rick Perry. Acceptable to Latinos based on his Texas record. Draws strong Tea Party support without being defined by it. A Southerner, he is clearly ready to play on the national stage. A big state governor whose record on jobs has only gotten better. He can’t be dismissed.

...snip...

But look through the lens of history. Republicans don’t like to take chances. They want their candidates to have served their apprenticeship as losers. The Republican voters are agoraphobic, fearful of new situations and people. It takes them a while to get used to new candidates and those who have run once and learned their lessons have great appeal. So keep your eye on Perry.

Like all greed merchants as long as they can add to their bottom line the welfare of employees comes in a distant last.

Yeah, those Latinos put up with non-expansion of Medicaid and the (rich) state being third from the bottom of all states (the poor ones) in all levels of social services. And yet they DON'T VOTE and break out mariachis for anybody with a smile and a hug for the cameras.

The Governor from Koch will have a lot of money behind him, and so far he as proved far slipperier than Chispie Christie in avoiding getting investigated by outsiders.

Perry is too stupid, and that characteristic has become toxic post shrub. Voters will accept a certain amount of stupidity, even demand it, but Perry is a laughing stock of stupid.

They know the nut jobs can't win, but when you own both parties, you've hedged your bet.

I can't figure out if little brother permanently scuttled his presidential ambitions or not. Seems to me that if he's going to run, this would be the time.

Since this is Morris, I will disregard this as idle musings of a vacant mind.

like we know Perry...you wouldn't even opine such a thing.

Perry can't even take a piss without checking which way the political wind is blowing. He has more than just skeletons in his closet and his wife makes Palin look like a Rhodes Scholar. The only reason he has lasted this long is the Gov. of Texas has no power, he has rich friends for whom he is not above kissing rings or butts, which ever is closest. There has been so many candidate to go for his position that he has won with way less than a majority.

But let me tell you what I really think of pRick Perry.....

Sorry, Rick Perry: Dick Morris Thinks You Could Win.

One-time Clinton confidante-turned-conservative pundit Dick Morris has returned to Newsmax.com to pronounce that Texas Gov. Rick Perry could make a comeback in 2016. Sorry, Rick. That pretty much means it will never happen.

This is a somewhat hoary joke in the political-punditry world, the idea that Dick Morris' predictions are so notoriously bad that you can generally assume that the opposite is true. And, to be fair, Morris' broad point about Perry isn't bad. Perry's done a lot to rehabilitate his public image since the debacle that was his 2012 campaign. To make his case that Perry could have better luck in 2016, Morris uses the also-hoary "the next Republican in line usually wins" argument, although he has to displace a lot of Republicans that did much better than Perry before he can give Perry the mantle.

But we come not to praise Dick Morris, but to bury him. After MSNBC's Benjy Sarlin tweeted the joke, I was inspired to take a look at the Dick Morris archive at NewsMax.com. Below, original headlines of articles that Morris wrote during his first 2007 – 2011 run with the website. I bolded my favorites, and also pulled out three examples of back-to-back posts that basically contradict each other. (Long list of MORRIS wrong predictions: )

According to Juanita Jean, Dick Morris just gave Goodhair the French Kiss of Death http://www.juanitajean.com/2014/05/01/the-french-kiss-of-death/

Y’all, Rck Perry might as well hang it up. Dick Morris has projected him the winner of the GOP Presidential nomination by making a big come back..

Having Dick Morris predict you’ll win is like having Karl Rove say it’s too early to call an election.

… the idea that Dick Morris’ predictions are so notoriously bad that you can generally assume that the opposite is true.

On the other hand, Morris and Perry look like they’d be a real cute couple.

Goodhair has no chance now.
