AP: Bail doubled for Sperry, Iowa, man accused of shooting dog (FELONY!!!)

Don't do the gun crime if you can't do the time. Edit: IF convicted of a felony, he can't legally own a gun anymore.

SPERRY — A Sperry man accused of shooting a dog in front of a 10-year-old boy saw his bail more than doubled during his first court appearance in Des Moines County District Court.

District Associate Judge Michael Dieterich increased bail for Cody Trails Warth, 21, to $12,500 on Friday.

Warth had been free on $5,000 bail when he appeared before the judge Friday on charges of felony criminal mischief and misdemeanor counts of animal abuse and shooting a gun across a roadway. He was led from the courtroom in handcuffs and later released from jail after a bail bondsman posted his bail.

Prosecutors said Warth earlier this month shot a neighboring family’s dog while it played on the family’s property near the 10-year-old boy. — AP

Pets should be protected from violence from all humans. Getting bit by a dog is not justification for deadly force.
