Suggesting that People Focus on the Upcoming Election Is NOT Authoritarian!

It's a suggestion that people focus on the election that is already close at hand. Since the 2014 election will determine the makeup of Congress and many state legislatures, focusing on it seems like a no-brainer for a forum created to promote electing Democrats to office.

2014 is NOW! The 2016 presidential election has no declared candidates at this point. It won't until the 2014 election is over. We have an election to win this year. Once again I suggest we focus on that election. Since I have no authority whatsoever, it's just a suggestion.

How can one without authority who makes suggestions be an authoritarian? I don't get that. Maybe my comprehension of English is lacking somehow.

Again, I suggest doing the following:

GOTV 2014 and Beyond!

Wendy Davis and Leticia van de Putte are two strong candidates who are running against comparitively weak GOP candidates (assuming that Dan Patrick is the GOP Lt. Gov. nominee). Greg Abbott is making Goodhair look like a genius and is doing his best to give Wendy material for ads in the fall. Dan Patrick is a racist idiot who is alienating Hispanic republicans and every other group.

Texas will eventually turn blue. I would like to see this happen sooner and 2014 is a good opportunity to advance this goal.

BTW, I am hoping that Hillary Clinton will campaign for Wendy Davis and there is a rumor that Hillary Clinton may be the keynote speaker at the state party convention in June.

If you succeed, the country will be much the better for it.

That's the election that matters in 2014. 2016 will occur in due course. I'll be focused on that election, starting the day after this year's election. Until then, I have only one goal.

There races are non-partisan but the tea party is running slates in these races and so we are going to focus on a couple of races to test our GOTV plans. It should be interesting.

...every time someone voices an opinion on the 2016 Presidential election, especially if their opinion is we need a more leftist candidate than Hillary Clinton. IOW it's a thinly-veiled "STFU" -- or if that seems too harsh, then just a thinly-veiled "That topic is off limits right now".

This is a political discussion board, and people have different topics of interest. If someone wants to discuss who they would like for a Presidential candidate, then let 'em discuss it. It's not like there's no room for others to put up their own threads about the 2014 midterms.

Please note I am not complaining about your, and others' posting GOTV threads. GOTV will be very, very important in this midterm and hopefully we will do that in a big way. But why even bother complaining when others post about 2016? It is also a topic of interest, and complaining when people make posts about it (1) just kicks their thread anyway, (2) amounts to telling others what they should and should not be discussing, and (3) therefore causes needless acrimony IMO.

...you should go to this thread and suggest they stop worrying about 2016 and instead worry about GOTV for 2014:
