The Democratic National Committee has invited 15 cities to submit official bids to host the partys 2016 convention.
The cities that received the DNCs RFP, or Request for Proposal, are: Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland, Columbus, Detroit, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, Miami, Nashville, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Pittsburgh and Salt Lake City.
The RFPs went out Monday and are due back to the DNC by June 6, according to CNN.
In order to move on to the next round of the selection process, cities will have to prove that they meet a long list of criteria. Hosting a party convention can be a huge economic boon to a city, but it also comes with stringent requirements for fundraising, convention and hotel space and security.
The DNC will announce its convention city in late 2014 or early 2015.

(13,985 posts)As much as I'd love to see it here in Phoenix, I'll take the HUGE strategic advantage that Orlando would present. With Crist as a good-faith governor and Florida being a purple state, we could completely seal 2016 no matter who is the nominee.
With that strategy in mind, I am surprised there is no request to Dallas or San Antonio. Talk about putting the GOP on the defensive....
