As Heard On FOX News - No, Really

http://thinkprogress.org/romm/2012/03/27/451932/fox-news-debunks-right-wing-lies-about-chevy-volt-anti-terrorist-weapon-safest-car-on-the-road/ (for video)

"I love Fox news, and I feel like I’m kind of attacking my own family here. I love O’Reilly, I love Neil Cavuto, I love Eric Bolling, but like a lot of my fellow conservative, they seem to have kind of a fetish for demonizing the Volt...

and then...
“I don’t see what’s so conservative about wanting to send $35 billion a year to Hugo Chavez’s Venezuela for his oil or to send $70 billion to Middle Eastern OPEC countries. I don’t see how that’s conservative…. The Chevy Volt is by far the best way to bring all American energy … to our automobiles…. It is the safest car on the road.”

and then...
The Fox host, Steve Doocy, actually says, “I’m glad you brought up the myth that so many people think that Barack Obama came into office a shoved this down GM’s throat.” Yes, Fox is shocked, shocked that people believe a lie that they themselves have been repeating endlessly.

It was the one several months ago that showed a polar bear hugging the car in gratitude at the end. I just thought it was a clever ad, but my friend replied, acting as if I put him on the waiting list for government mandated ownership of an electric car.

After a tirade about the "global warming myth", he went on to predict that Americans will never accept an electric car because it "just can't be done" to our demands. We went back and forth for a few replies before I finally gave up and accepted his Fox News installed ignorance chip.

One of the funniest points he made was that "after ten years you have to replace the batteries, and it costs thousands, and the car will be worthless". I simply asked him how much he thinks he can get for his gas powered Malibu in ten years.

Even though my friend is 60 years old, I believe we'll easily live to see that he was wrong about the electric car., and that Fox News misled him once again.

I firmly believe that new battery technology is on the horizon that will revolutionize the concept. Look at our cell phones. The batteries that power it were invented soley for the reason to make them smaller than the original "brick" from the '90s, a classic example of need promoting innovation.

it looked sweet! Really don't understand why anyone would diss that car. Of course I drive a prius. Can't tell you how many people tell me they wouldn't drive a hybrid or electric car because of the lack of "joy of driving."
Which makes me laugh. I guess they find their "joy of driving" in paying four times as much a month at the gas pump.

What an eerie ride. It was a joyful experience.

First, the damned thing makes almost no noise. Cannot hear the engine start and stop. Cannot hear the electric drive at all. Wind noise is nearly absent even above 70 mph!

Second, the transmission is a joy, no gears! It seemlessly and silently glides from one ratio to another to another. Before you know it you are going over 70.

It's a delightful auto, roomy and apparently safe. I only wish I could have afforded one.
