Snake Eats Monster Centipede, Which Eats It Back

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2014/04/snake-eats-monster-centipede-which-eats-it-back/

"Scientists conducting research in Macedonia came across the gruesome aftermath of a battle between a viper and a centipede in which they believe the two foes literally ate each other to death.

The discovery of a dead young female nose-horned viper with the head of a centipede protruding from her stomach was made last May on Golem Grad, an island in Lake Prespa, according to the journal Ecologica Montenegrina....

...The viper had a notable absence of “visceral organs,” which led the team to conclude that the centipede had chewed through its way through the snake’s insides, “almost reaching its freedom.”

Gah! Note to self: always, always, always kill it before eating it.

That's just nasty! My irrational fear of
giant centipedes seems a bit more rational now.

Had a blue-belly lizard that a friend collected either in Idaho or Eastern Oregon when I lived in Eugene. Not a large lizard.

Had to feed it something so I fed it meal worms from the local pet store.

Came down the next morning to find the meal worm making its way around the tank. The blue-belly had a big hole in its abdomen and was dead.

I set up a tank for him with rocks and water. It was a Texas centipede, jet black with yellow legs and a red head and scary large pincers for mouth parts. It was fascinating to watch. We fed it a very large grasshopper which it attacked, wrapped its body around and gnawed it down completely, wings, legs everything within 15 minutes. Voracious. I eventually took it out to a state natural area and released him.
