GOP Health Plans Would Be A National Security Risk
The GOP health plans would be a huge national security risk. If you really think about what the GOP wants with their fully privatized ownership health plans our country could be in serious trouble with an attack of a biological nature where natural or human caused.
There is not mistake that bugs evolve and get more dangerous. And there is no question that some terrorist or other organization might find a lethal bug to use against a targeted population. Without the proper infrastructure the country could be devastated.
We have come a long way since the Black Plague of the Middle Ages and we have come a long way since the days of Typhoid Mary. That fact does not mean the we are out of the woods when it comes to germs, bacteria and viruses that evolve all the time sometimes in a matter of days rather than years or decades.
GOP plans would gut the national disease control apparatus that is the "national guard" against biological hazards. The kind of expertise that exists in that arena cannot be replaced if compromised. You just do not grow bioscientists with decades of knowledge on trees. And computers like Watson are no match for a fully trained human mind.
A large population of uninsured and unmonitored people is a biological breeding ground for contagious diseases left unmonitored.
We will be playing Russian roulette with most chambers loaded under such conditions. And weak borders, international travel and lax disease control can allow infectious diseases to come into the country.
Diseases like Resistant TB, Leprosy and other chronic diseases have already reinfiltrated the US. There was a recent case in Longmont Colorado where a number of students were infected by a TB carrier. Many tested positive and will have to be monitored and treated for a long period of time.
Our present health care system is the weakest link in our national security. We do not have the resources to contain a serious epidemic. If we are short of some crucial cancer drugs what else are we short of. And we do not make a lot of drugs in the US anymore.
