I wrote a new book
A message from my senior senator. She wrote the book, not me.
Ah, hell, she's everyone's senior senator. Well here's the message: Manny,
For years, I have fought in every way I've known how to help us once again be the America that creates opportunities for anyone who works hard and plays by the rules. An America of accountability and fair play. An America that builds a future for not just some of our children, but for all of our children. An America where everyone gets what I got: a fighting chance. I've written a new book about some of the fights I've taken on, and it's available on Tuesday, April 22nd. The book is called A Fighting Chance, and you can order a copy or sign up to get a free chapter from Henry Holt and Company.* Click here to order the book, or sign up to receive a free chapter on April 22nd. This is a very personal story – the daughter of a maintenance man in Oklahoma, married at 19, a young mom, a special needs teacher, a professor at Harvard, and the Senior Senator from Massachusetts. But it's also a very public story – the story of each of the big fights in my life. Defending hard-working people who needed a fresh start after a serious illness or job loss. Confronting the government over the Wall Street bailout. Tangling with the big banks over fraudulent mortgages and deceptive credit cards. And running a hard race for the U.S. Senate in Massachusetts. The way I see it, all the battles were about a single, deeper threat: America's middle class is under attack. And it's not under attack by some unstoppable force of nature. It's in trouble because the game is deliberately rigged. A Fighting Chance isn't meant to be a definitive account of any one historical event – it's just the stories of what I saw and what I lived. It's about how Washington works – and really doesn't. It's about losing, learning, and getting stronger along the way. And it's about what we've fought for together – and what we're going to keep fighting for each and every day. Visit afightingchancebook.com to learn more about the book, to order your copy, and to sign up to receive a chapter free on April 22nd. These battles didn't end when we passed Wall Street reform, or when we got the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau up and running, or even when we won the election in Massachusetts. We're still fighting – because we know if you don't fight, you can't win. Thank you for being a part of this, Elizabeth

1. "if you don't fight, you can't win"
So simple and spot on. You also cannot count on someone else to fight for you.

If she doesn't win in the primary, I'm gonna be pissed.

10. Phew!
These battles didn't end when we passed Wall Street reform, or when we got the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau up and running, or even when we won the election in Massachusetts.
For a second there, I thought this was going to be about how Bush saved us from corporate America. There is no question that Dodd-Frank was a strong bill—the strongest in three generations. I didn’t have a chance to vote for it because I wasn’t yet in the Senate, but if I could have, I would have voted for it twice.

18. Wow, vindication is amazing.
I totally called this. I knew Warren didn't want the job from the get go. She used it to catapult her into the Senate, and Obama helped with that. That's incredible.
History is going to look upon Obama as a political statesman and philosopher. Good for her to make this known publicly. You don't always get to see these behind the scenes things years before elections happen. It's always after so that they don't cause strife. Kudos Warren. |

20. Thanks Manny, can't wait to read her glowing respect for Clinton.
I didn't know she had a book coming out but I will be buying it day #1 (hope I can get it in ebook format, not one for paper books), or checking it out at the library.
Warren is great. |
