Donations pour in for Phoenix mom facing charge (91K)

A Phoenix woman arrested after leaving her two kids in a hot vehicle during a job interview is fighting to clear her name in court, with the support of a New Jersey woman who has raised more than $91,000 to help her effort.

Unemployed and on food stamps, Shanesha Taylor went to the job interview last month at a Scottsdale insurance company.

The 35-year-old wasn't able to find a sitter, so she left her 2-year-old son and 6-month old baby in her Dodge Durango with the key still in the ignition and the windows rolled down an inch.

A witness found the infant crying hysterically and sweating profusely as temperatures inside the SUV exceeded 100 degrees.

These are the same people who would vilify her for being on aid, no win situation. Were there better ideas, more than likely.
How long can one listen to the drum beat of others dismissing your worth or integrity and not have it effect you.
Billionaire can rape their Daughter and skate because he will not do well in prison, but this poor woman would?

her children were also in a tough spot being left in a hot car. She put the children in a situation of very high risk as she went in to apply for that job. She couldn't find a sitter, but I can't excuse her for risking their health and maybe their lives in that way. The Phoenix area is just not a place to leave any living creature in a car for most of the year.

A tough spot for her, and I doubt that she will be able to get past this in court. Child endangerment is a serious thing.

6. I am wondering about her child care plan if she did get a job.

Takes awhile before that first pay check comes in.

7. Yes, that's no doubt an issue, as it is for all

single parents. There may be a perfectly valid reason she could not find a sitter that day. The answer to that is to call the place she's applying to and asking to reschedule the interview because her children can't be left alone. She should explain why something happened that prevented her from getting a sitter and ask to reschedule. At the very least, it would display good judgment on her part and a sense of responsibility.

Arranging for child care is difficult for everyone at times. It will be an issue for her employment, no doubt, at times. However, I suspect that her lapse in judgement here is probably not atypical for her. That would probably show up in the interview, anyhow.

I really sympathize with her situation. She needs work and has two small children. Lots of creativity will be needed, even after she gets a job. I don't know what the situation was that prevented her from finding someone to look after her children for a couple of hours. But, the answer simply isn't to leave them in a hot car. Ever. Poor judgement.

8. This is not a situation where sympathy is warranted.

It would be warranted if she had left the kids at home, in a more reasonably temperature controlled space. It's still not a good idea, but at least she wasn't going to risk baking the children to a painful death.

Single parents get into untenable situations when it comes to trying to get work or resources during times of desperation, and people need to cut them some slack as long as they don't do something ridiculously dangerous, which this was.

9. Perhaps some of this money could be used to pay for parenting classes for this woman.

If she doesn't know not to intentionally leave her children in a hot car by themselves she could certainly benefit from such classes.
