A woman celebrating her 26th birthday and six children are among eight killed in a West Virginia house fire.

Officials say the blaze swept through the two-story Charleston home early Saturday. It is the deadliest fire in more than 60 years in West Virginia's capital city.

A hotel manager and neighbors say Lisa Carter is one of the victims. Neighbors say a family birthday party was held in her honor at the home Friday.

Charleston Holiday Inn Express General Manager Rusty Eaton says Carter had worked at the hotel's front desk for about six months.

A fire official says all of the children who died were younger than 8. Mayor Danny Jones says another child is on life support at a hospital.

that somebody tried to inspect the home, but they were denied entry. I am trying to fiind out more.
I don't see that in a WV newspaper report.
It was an old, 2-story wood frame house with no working smoke detectors. It went up in minutes.
Sad.....
