FOX Noise Doc says it's OK Cheney got new heart; in future hearts'll be fixed with Stem Cells.

If it weren't a matter of life or death, I'd say it was ironic. The head doctor at FOX Noise said despite his age, it's OK Cheney got a heart transplant. He added that Stem Cell treatments may help treat similar heart conditions in the future. What the Fox hacktor didn't say is that Cheney's party opposed such therapies as a matter of policy.

Helping mold -- or is it mould? -- the court of public opinion:

Dr. Manny: Despite age, Cheney good candidate for heart transplant

EXCERPT...

“I think this was the proper treatment for him,” said Dr. Manny Alvarez, senior managing health editor at FoxNews.com. “After a very long time of chronic health problems, ultimately, his heart needed to be replaced, and this was the only way to do it.”

Alvarez said Cheney’s overall strong physical health made him a good candidate for a transplant, despite his age.

“The treatments he had prior to the transplant allowed him to lead a full life,” Alvarez added.

SNIP...

Alvarez said he believes the future of heart medicine will be different for patients like Cheney with the revolution of stem cells.

Fuhgeddaboudid. He's a lovely man. Who knows, if we'd a had Stem Cells in the armamentarium sooner, even the lowly middle classes, should they enjoy the resources, might have access to heart health. One thing's certain in Cheney's world: Even with Stem Cell therapy, the uninsured and the poor masses would be out of luck when it comes to health care.

This isn't the future. Some one else could have used that heart, and we'd all be better off without Darth Cheney.

The guy may now be healthy enough to stand trial. Lord knows he has a lot to answer for. A sampler.

and it were up to me I'd have snuffed the bastard - indirectly of course by simply letting him die and thus letting me keep my license, but snuffed him nevertheless.

...A hideous stink beyond imagination and everyone is too polite to mention it, so the ice clinks in the glasses and the conversation goes on. Well, not for everybody.

But thanks to President Larry The Cable Guy and his "decision" against stem cell research and the week of seclusion he spent at the ranch - we.may never know what could've been. I know a couple people in my.life who could benefit from stem cells but thanks to W's reign and 8 years of fundamentalist insanity they probably won't.

7. Me too. What's also sad that in the future it sounds like only the rich will be able to afford SCT.

For now, anyway, only the rich can afford it -- particularly those who can afford to go overseas, like Peyton Manning -- not that there's anything wrong with that. As a liberal, progressive, FDR-JFK Democrat I believe it's a right to which we all are entitled.

5. You should really know the difference between adult stem cells and embryonic

otherwise you look as uninformed as they do.

Bush/Cheney/Rove were not against research into adult stem cells, in this case stem cells taken from your own heart for example, to generate new heart tissue.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm all for harvesting embryonic stem cells from in vitro fertilization procedures or for utilizing stem cell and body parts from aborted fetuses. I think they would be cleaner and more viable than material taken from miscarriages where there was usually something wrong with the fetus.

But how comfortable would you be having your medical destiny decided by someone else's opinion of you personally? Do you see where that might lead?
Remember that Mickey Mantle practically drank himself to death but was able to get in line for a liver transplant. Well, he was a hero of sorts to some, but maybe somebody "more deserving" should have received that organ.
