my in laws when we went on vacation. mona trapped my MIL in the bedroom. kept hissing and swatting. finally my MIL threw a blanket over the cat and escaped. the cat loved my FIL and would wrap herself around his neck while he was trying to work in his office or play the piano. wonder why she didn't like my MIL. i didn't like her either. on the other hand she kept our cat joey for a few weeks when we moved to phoenix. he randomly bit and scratched -- you never knew -- you could be petting him and he be purring and the next thing he have teeth and claws on your arm, but she liked him.

My questions:
1. Why was a seven-month-old child close enough to a cat with "a history of violence" to pull its tail?
2. How did an adult think that kicking the cat was going to make anything better?

Palmer says the animal attacked his 7-month-old child after the baby pulled its tail. The child suffered a few scratches on the forehead.

On the 911 call, Palmer tells the dispatcher he kicked the cat “in the rear” to protect his child. Palmer says the animal then “just went off over the edge” — leading Palmer and his girlfriend to barricade themselves, their baby and the family dog in the bedroom for safety.

A motive for the feline's frantic behavior has not been revealed. However, the man who called 911 told the dispatcher he had "kicked the cat in the rear" after it attacked the 7-month-old child.

"He's got kind of a history of violence," the caller told a 911 dispatcher. "He's kind of a violent cat already. But he's really bad right now."

when they were kicking around whether or not to have a baby.

Also, a "cat with a history of violence" isn't the same thing as, say, a gorilla with a history of violence. They probably thought, "The cat has a bit of an attitude, but it's just a cat"

That's how I broke up a three-cat fight one time. The three cats scattered in separate directions the minute the water hit them. (I was using a full liter measuring cup, though.)

to just take it. Some cats and dogs don't just cringe away from 'abuse'.
