I'm glad she is safe
We can confirm that Malia Obama is safe and was never in danger.
Thats what a spokeswoman for the first lady, Michelle Obama, said on Tuesday, shortly after an earthquake struck central and southern Mexico, where her 13-year-old daughter, Malia, is visiting with a school group. Jackie Calmes quoted the spokeswomans statement on The Caucus blog this afternoon.

(154,021 posts)For the time and date of the actual quake. Jokes flew in Mexican media all day yesterday. Suffice it to say they hold these civil defense exercises regularly, something about 1985 and September, something minor, where about 10k people died. I mean it's not like Mexico is on the ring of fire or 'thing.
Regardless, by the time people in the capital of the state reached the evacuation points the ground started to shake under them.
Suffice it to say Chiapas experienced zero damage and their feeling of the sismo was mild at best.
Malia was actually closer to the epicenter. Damage in the City of Oaxaca was minimal. Now one county is Guerrero lost 800 homes and the Amy is already deploying. Oh the state of Guerrero suffered a total of 30,000 homes damaged, and Mexico City had 1200 buildings damages, so far, they are checking this building by building, damage has been cosmetic, and nothing structural.
Oh forgot, the Metro Line A lost service, they had to replace rail, on line A. They are back in service.
And the water system had slight damage, will be back to 100% by tomorrow.
