Bernie Sanders Loses His Cool In Heated Argument With Michele Bachmann (And He’s Right!)

It’s not often that Senator Bernie Sanders loses his usually cool demeanor, but that’s exactly what happened on Monday afternoon’s episode of CNN’s The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer.

Once they got going, all the host had to do was get out of the way as these two ideologically opposed lawmakers went at each other’s throats for nearly 13 minutes straight, debating everything from social economic inequality, taxes, and America’s quality-of-life relative to other developed countries.

Time after time, Michele Bachmann came at Bernie Sanders with carefully rehearsed Republican lies and talking points, but the independent senator was absolutely not having it, cutting her off, standing his ground, at dispelling each and everyone of her choreographed lies with the hard dose of truth and facts.

If there was ever a video that displays just how out of touch Republicans, the Tea Party, and their “starlings” such as Michele Bachmann are with the harsh economic reality faced by the American people after the devastating Bush Recession, this is it.

. . .

This stupid, automaton, unfeeling, discourteous, respectless, wind up puppet, mush for brains sorry excuse for a woman needed to be stopped.

I did not like how Blitzer stayed out of it. Had something like this happened in front of me with me having the job he did, no way could she have been allowed such behavior without severe chastizement out of courtesy to the other guest and the viewers as well.

It's pretty easy to just start mouthing over people and keep it up and be louder and drown them out.
It's intolerable to the listener who is trying to see beyond the Kindergarten behavior and hear the other person who struggles for a right to be heard. It is the job of the interviewer to put a stop to wasted air time and the wasted time for all involved including the listeners.

I considered writing to NBC about it, but I'm so damn tired of having to protest the same old same old. I think these asshats sit in a room and practice interrupting, they keep getting better at it, and are allowed to keep it up.

How can any one have a debate with such a person? All she can do is regurgitate talking points while ignoring facts and logic. How many times did she come back and argue for Reaganomics? If that had worked, there would have been no meltdown in 2008 and there would have be no serious unemployment today.

We have an unemployment problem because the so-called job creators refuse to create jobs. They have no incentive to create jobs. They can make money without creating wealth. They just gamble money on credit swaps and, if that doesn't work, go to the Fed and get more. The Fed just gives it to them at zero percent interest. That is the system that's broken.

I think what Wolfie needs to actually conduct a DEBATE, instead of a shouting match where the most aggressive bully wins.
Have two clear soundproof glass booths, one for each guest. When one person is speaking, the other HAS THEIR MIC CUT OFF until the speaking person has made their point. Or at least cut somebody off when they start bullhorning.

Take turns, just like a real debate with real debating rules and order.

It would be nice if all of DU did a full Frank Luntz on the term BULLHORNING. It really does capsulize this unfair debating technique.

And my source was a FB thread on this very video. Credit where it's due.

When Wolf Blitzer decided to "fact check" Sen. Sanders on the impact of making large corporations and the wealthy pay their fair share of taxes. Blitzer jumped in with his everybody knows line that "when you raise taxes on corporations they stop hiring". Taxes are way down the line when it comes to hiring decisions. Demand for goods and services is what drives hiring decisions -- always has been, always will be. (Yes, corporations tax shop when it comes to where to locate a facility by playing one location off against another location but that is a different matter altogether). So when Blitzer attempted to fact check Sanders with a lie it was more than I could stand.

If I was Sanders, I would have directly told her to stop being so rude, and then if she insisted on continuing to interrupt every 5 seconds, I would have done the same thing, and talked over her every time she tried to talk. I would not have let her hold the floor like that.

I can tell you guys that Bachmann is one most delusional lawmaker ever seen. As of right now I'm a Vermonter and I am very proud of Sanders for who he is and what he stands for. If he lose his cool, he have a good reason for that.

It sounds good to lay all the items she listed out... But the answer is blame Obama. There are no real solutions. I guess the undereducated base doesn't get that they are being swindled. They certainly don't understand macro-economics from their own micro-economic status.

They did at least get her to say no to min wage, finally.

Bernie was polite to a fault. He let her talk over him. I would have said, "SHUT UP, BITCH!" so many times.

Still, this screaming is out of control. Whispering may be the only solution.

....and to call it a "good discussion" at the end of the interview just cements the fact that he's pretty useless in that role. No control, and so afraid of offending anyone, he can't keep his own interview in order. It was painful to watch.

Just keep on Wolf, you might be the last nail in the coffin yet for CNN: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/01/28/cnn-ratings-january-2014_n_4682699.html

As for Bernie, poor guy, AMAZING self-restraint!
