The vet called me with the results of the dermapathology report about Mousie's ear.
She doesn't have cancer! YAY!
They also did bloodwork and all of those readings were normal. However, they don't know what she does have. They ran a culture for ringworm and those results were negative.
They recommended an anti-inflammatory regimen to help. The rest of her right ear and her left ear haven't developed the same problem. She is eating well and acting ok.
That raggedy left ear makes her look like she has been in a back alley fighting all comers,
Tuff kitteh!
Thanks to all the kind and caring DUers who helped me so that I could find out what was wrong. At least cancer was ruled out.

(3,709 posts)I know how scary it can be to have something wrong with one of these little furballs and not know what it is. At least, you now know what it isn't.
Hope little Mousie (love the name) feels better soon.

(5,927 posts)Our oldest boy Lancelot has cancer on his ears, the tips are gone. We've been able to keep it arrested with 1. medication and 2. he can NEVER have direct sunlight. It's rough on all of us, but it's necessary. We're always juggling which room he can be in, which room can have open blinds, direct light or indirect.....it's quite a dance. But he's our boy and we love him dearly, the little shit.
BTW I nominate him for World's Most Expensive Kitty. I swear we could have bought another car for the money we've spent keeping him healthy and happy. I would spend twice that much and call it a bargain, that's how big a sucker I am for these furry little kids.
You fall in love with these littile shits and they break your heart eventually. But in the meantime they bring joy. I'll take that deal.
I'm glad you had such good luck.

(9,314 posts)I am the proud caretaker of Nikita's kids (I am not sure if you saw any of my threads) but there is no doubt who runs the show out here. Four kids in one room, and a semi-feral cat on the porch (the mother of the kids) who delivered them to me for safekeeping. DU gave me a crash course in learning about cats since I too had been a doggie person all my life. Oh, yes, and Cheyenne, my cock-a-poo who has lost her sight holds down the fort in the living room, she has never been around a cat, and cannot quiet figure out what is going on. But she is approaching 13 and I have had her since she was 10 weeks old, so things get very tricky here.
On days that I manage to post a few words here on DU, I consider myself lucky to have been able to steal a few minutes for myself.
But they are precious and they light up my world!

(9,314 posts)You would be proud of the kids. They are beautiful, well-behaved, extremely loving, happy and each has distinctive qualities. I love them so much. Still looking for homes for a couple of them, but it is hard to let go. Nikita still will not come inside, still lives on the porch. She too is wonderful.
Best regards,
Sam

(9,126 posts)I was lucky enough through a strange turn of events to find a forever home for a beautiful black burmese mix a couple of weeks ago. It's so great when beings find each other. I bet Nikita loves you as well, it just suits her to be outside. I'm sure she's grateful you saved her kids. Post pictures whenever you get a chance. I'm sure they're all gorgeous.

(38,264 posts)I tend to be more restless about others, even my fur-babies, than my own.
Doctors have cut chunks out of my arms and face, even my tongue, stuck probes up my ass, but not half as scary as bits they have cut out of people or animals I love.
Dark places. I wouldn't wish it on anyone, human or animal.

(3,891 posts)Glad to hear that the Kitty will be OK.
FWIW, nearly twenty years ago, we had a cat that used to get the strangest crusty growth on her ears and nose. It was incredibly uncomfortable for her, and the treatment was a shot of steroids every three weeks or so. The Steroids would cause the crusty growth to vanish but then it would come back in less than a month.
It took us a few months to realize that our kitten was having an allergic reaction to something outside, so she became an indoor cat all the time. The condition disappeared, and never returned.
Every single Vet at the hospital we took her to would look, take pictures to send to their professors, and none of them had any idea what condition she had. It was only a change in weather that made it impractical to let the cats out, and that led us to the discovery that it was the back yard causing the unknown reaction.
That cat lived nearly twenty years with us, and never had another reaction.
Perhaps that gives you hope, and if nothing else lets us know we still have much to learn about our babies, and our world.
