What does this say about Romney's personality????

The Wall St Journal reported:http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970204781804577269551172054374.html?KEYWORDS=romney+house

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has filed an application to replace a single-story 3,000-square-foot beach house in La Jolla, Calif., with a 7,400-square-foot home with an additional 3,600 square feet of finished underground space, according to public records. A representative declined to comment. Tony Crisafi, one of the project's architects, declined to comment on Mr. Romney's motivations but says that these days, most of his clients want to be discreet about the scale of their home, and one way to do that is "by pushing things underground."

Maureen Dowd's related comment:

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/18/opinion/sunday/dowd-is-elvis-a-mormon.html?ref=opinion

It’s a metaphor alert, reinforcing the two image problems Romney has: that he’s an out-of-touch plutocrat and that his true nature is buried where we can’t see it.

What does this tell you about Romney? To me, it's far beyond the "rich, out-of-touch" moniker.

It shows how pig-headed, stubborn and intractable this guy is. Totally wrong for a world leader.

Every single person even remotely connected to politics, knows the guy has a "too rich" image problem. I can't imagine a single advisor who wouldn't recommending delaying this project until after the election.

It can only mean he said "I don't f'in care, I am building no matter what"

Or that he keeps his millions in a safe or a bank?

Sorry, we know Romney is very rich, and, at least in this case, he creates some work.

Of course, you can always count on Maureen Dowd to write a stupid column. There are a lot of things objectionable with Romney. but except if you are ready he should not be that rich and that wealth should be limited, I do not see a problem with this. BTW, this story is several month old now, even if Dowd discovers it today. You may want to remember she wrote similar stories about Gore and Edwards, and lied about Kerry in a column where she attributed words he never said. (Add to this her columns in 2008 on how Obama was out of touch, and you can know what to do about her).

My guess he is anticipating the need for a situation room and other west wing type of functionality.

When he looses the race, he will have a very large cavern.

Romney is a wild card. We have no idea who he would be answering to if he somehow won the presidency. Would he answer to the tea party? Billionaires? Leaders of the Mormon church? Or would he try to be bipartisan/moderate (this is what many people assume, but we really have no way of knowing that)?

a fellow trader/analyst. It was strange. Most candidates would temper what they said
a bit...take more of a universal type role. He seemed oblivious that anyone outside
the financial world might be listening to him. It's funny how he kind of hides all
this in other venues

My guess, he's ignoring climate change or actually thinks he can stop the tides from rising with a wave of his mighty hand.
