I don't know why this bothers me, maybe because it says something about her. This woman grew up in Iowa and didn't live in New Jersey until she was in her early 30's. She was born in 1959, went to college in Pennsylvania, law school in Washington D.C., and then lived in N.Y before moving to N.J. in 1991.
So do you really acquire a regional accent when you don't live in a place until you're 32 years old?

But she ain't that good an actor, so she just came off pathetic.

(59,501 posts)I am a 63 year old woman, from a family of 9 kids. We grew up in the Chicago area and 6 of us have moved to different parts of the country all after college in Indiana. The NC sister has a distinct southern accent, while others have picked up more subtle versions of where they have lived for years. Interestingly, one of my daughters observed that at family gatherings, people come in speaking various accents, but after a few days, we all sound like those still in the region we grew up in. I never noticed this until the observation was made, but listening the next time, she was right.
There are plenty of reasons to think the lt governor is phony, this maybe is not one of them.
