Fox News: There Is Definitely A ‘War On Women Voters’
March 16, 2012
By Wendy Gittleson

When the propaganda arm of the Republican party admits that there is a war on women voters, it’s time to accept that the recent attacks on women’s rights are not coincidental, that they are, in fact, an orchestrated political strategy. Sally Kohn of Fox News writes,

While women voters might rather focus on jobs and the economy, watching Republicans jeopardize women’s health and reproductive freedom while slandering those who try and stand in their way is enough to make women demand not only good jobs and fair pay but political leaders who respect the liberty and rights of women in America.

President Obama’s campaign may be paying for fliers and advertisements to attract women voters, but in this regard, Republicans are giving him the kind of help that money can’t buy.

Now, to be fair, Kohn does seem to be a token liberal. She’s openly gay and was hired as part of Fox’s new “kinder, gentler” approach. And of course, Kohn doesn’t speak for the talking heads at Fox News. Bill O’Reilly, for example, denies that there is a war on women, going as far as to say, “It’s not about women,” much to the dismay of even one of his own correspondents. According to O’Reilly and his radio counterpart, Rush Limbaugh, the war on women isn’t because of Republican actions, it’s a Democratic conspiracy.

snip//

All of this leaves me scratching my head. What is their end-game? What do Republicans hope to achieve by alienating 51% of the voters? More importantly, what do they hope to achieve by driving women to vote for Democrats? Short of taking us back to the suffragette days, before women could vote (I’m sure someone will introduce a bill), their constant attacks on women’s rights seems to be a losing issue.

It’s clear that Republicans aren’t gaining traction on economic issues. The three GOP Presidential candidates offer no solutions. Instead, they are attempting to appeal to the base of the Republican party by harkening back to a time when men didn’t have to compete with women for jobs, because if birth control did one thing, it enabled women to have careers, something unheard of before reproductive choice. Maybe that is the Republican jobs plan, to take women out of the job market. Perhaps it’s not about getting women to the polls, it’s about disenfranchised men, men who are about as thrilled with the idea of voting for Mitt Romney as they are about cleaning the gutters. Then again, perhaps it’s simply really poor political judgement.

They won't be able to work, or want to be hired, if they cannot control their fertility. Oooops, another baby!!!!! Yep, that is the plan, and I am old enough to remember those days.

There are men out there who really resent women in the workforce. My father was one of them. But there are men my own age. They need to control women and want them out of the workforce. They simply can't take the competition and can't stand to see women successful at anything.

Women have lots of babies because there's no real help for it, there's no public school & private schools only for rich, so lots of stupid children who have no choice but to be serfs to the 1%. Ever read Handmaiden's Tale, this is the reich wing wet dream and they are doing their best to make it a reality. they own the machines, and are keeping out the voters thru ridiculous laws, and have made great advances in turning America backwards.

She describes herself as a cross between Rachel Maddow and Jon Stewart.

Just FYI; it's a "normal" person who wrote it and likely isn't indicative of the opinion at Fox whatsoever. I'm really stunned she took the position, but applaud her courage.

The people who want to roll back the New Deal joined forces with more-radicals who wanted to roll back the 60s (socially) and/or the entire 20th century (the Randites who hold the 19th century Robber Barons as the ideal).

To do that, they needed to ratchet up the hate and treat the opposition as an evil that needed to be vanquished. Compromise and real bipartisanship was weakness or treachery.

One faction of theirs realizes it would be better to back off that, but the others are having none of that. They want to push forward on all fronts.

All of them.

He told them to run on social issues in mid February. They are doing so. Any questions as to who is the real GOP mouthpiece? It isn't Frank Luntz, though he gets called in sometimes. It tends to originate with Rush, and he Limbaughtomizes his followers.

Women will go to the polls in massive numbers this year and will vote against all of this anti-woman BS. They must be counting on the male right-wing to get them elected. Sorry, Republicans, but they are out-numbered! Peace.

They're almost ensuring a 100% female turnout for the dems this year at thr rate they're going. The sad thing is it's going to take years, maybe decades to undo all the damage these anti progressive asswipes have done.

So they have an angle they think will work. It may seem counterproductive but again their research probably shows otherwise. Frank Luntz does a lot of this kind of work for them.

Keep in mind that Rick Santorum is winning the female vote in the Republican primaries. It seems that Republican women simply tune out when the men start yapping about womens issues and vote against their self-interests. We have seen that for decades with the white male blue collar worker that often votes Republican. They have been called various things, such as Wallace Democrats, Reagan Democrats, NASCAR dads, etc. So, why should women be any different in that respect.

Regardless, here is an interesting article that talks about the "tuning out" aspect. I think it is what has happened with so many white male blue collar workers as well. Democrats need to find a way to get these voters to tune in and start to vote for what is in their own best interests -- and fairness should be one issue to hammer home over and over and over again.

And why do Republican women put up with it? It must be insanity, to have women like Bachmann , Palin, Angle, Brewer in the forefront of Republican politics. The Republican party has now dropped to a new low, alienating women in this country.
