Mysteriously, it's never "stealing" when conservatives funnel my tax dollars to things I disagree with. Like bail-outs to rich banksters, or endless wars.
...
They think its the duty of others to help them take care of the poor, he remarked. We believe that we shouldnt take from others to help take care of the poor or to help ourself, but we follow Christs example.
He did not steal from his disciples to feed the hungry, Graston continued. No, he gave of his own substance to those that were in need, and I believe that as were saying no to the encroachments of the federal government, that we will have to stand up and the churches must take their place to take care of the needy. Im asking as we push the government out of the way that we need to fill that vacuum and begin to see those that around us and take that initiative ourself.

(362 posts)The Tea party rally was on one side of the capital building and was about 50% an anti-abortion rally. They got rained on . Catered by Chick-Fil-A
The SC Progressive rally was on the other side an hour later. Nice and dry. Several of the Tea Partyers came over to view our rally, wearing their water soaked "Stop Obamacare" stickers. I spoke with one who brought up this issue. "in the past charities took care of everyone... no one didn't get hospital care... etc... "
I asked when was the last time he stepped up and paid for someone to have open heart surgery. He said " well, you have great hospitals like the Shriners and I give to them". I said that's fine, but they only treat children and we don't have one here in Columbia.
Just looked it up. A 50 patient orthopaedic hospital in Greenville SC. A fine institution I'm sure, but not a replacement for health insurance
And the joke it that the "nullify" did no such thing. It basically said that SC employees can't direct anyne to Obamacare and no employee can enlist in Obamacare. No chance of that; SOUTH CAROLINA EMPLOYEES HAVE STATE TAXPAYER SUPPORTED HEALTH INSURANCE. The state pays 73-75% of the individuals premium. So taxpayer supported health care is fine for the general assembly officials, but no the poor.

(154,021 posts)a man went down a well here in San Diego, we covered the story. When all was said and done it was a million plus hospital bill. Some was covered by neighbors, some by charity, they sill owe more than they will ever see in their lives. Most folks do not have any clue how expensive modern medical care is. The neighbors raised 5K dollars, commendable, that is 2 days, best case, of intensive care.

There once was a little church somewhere in the Carolina that is south. Its leaders routinely questioned The Lord on such things as, "why dost thou maketh us eat oysters when Your Book says not to?" And the Lord replied, "why do you think I created butter and Texas Pete?" And the parishioners had no answer, for it is hard to speak when your mouth is full of oysters.
So it was a dark and gloomy day when the members of this church spake unto The Lord: "Lord, we have questioned you many times on why you make us do things like eat oysters, and add sugar to tea while it's still hot, and live in this miserable hellhole in the first place. And you have always answered, and you have always been right. But now we need your help. Our dear pastor has cancer of the testicles that has spread throughout his body. What shall we do?"
"Taketh thee Brother Joe's oyster pot, the one that holds all the oysters off the coast of the Beach of Myrtle."
'We tried that. The pawn broker only offered us twenty bucks for it.'
"No, you stupid shit, don't sell it. Fill it with water and build a huge fire under it. Then take Brother Edward's oyster pot and put nine Number 10 cans of tomato sauce, twenty pounds of cooked hamburger, five diced onions, a whole head of minced garlic, three handfuls of basil and twenty leaves of bay in it, then simmer for three hours. Bring forth thirty loaves of fresh French bread, slice it, spread it with butter, sprinkle it with garlic salt and toast it in the oven. Make a hundred gallons of tea, and get Sister Esmerelda to make fifty pecan pies. And finally boil twenty-five pounds of spaghetti noodles. Then make 200 signs that say "spaghetti feed tonight" and put one on every telephone pole in town."
They did as they were told. They worked together and hard, and earned $500. They took it to the hospital and begged that it be sufficient to save their pastor.
"I am sorry, but $500 won't help."
They asked The Lord for help. "Perhaps if you sold the church property."
They did as they were told and received $150,000.
"Sorry, folks, your pastor needs a million dollars worth of care. But this $150,500 is a good downpayment."
They asked The Lord again. "Gee, I don''t know...part of the reason I invented government in the first place was to take care of these things."
