1. Al Franken?
What a shame, how hard it is to come up with just a few answers to your question.

11. Yup, Franken was my first thought, too
But your point is valid... not an easy task to come up with more.

15. Al defends the NSA's mass surveillance. He also supported SOPA and PIPA,
reflecting his ties to the corporate entertainment industry.

17. Franken's been a big disappointment.
I'm beginning to think he's a budding Feinstein.

3. I'd say that about covers it
The cold truth is a lot of politicians are corrupt and bought off, and unfortunately not limited to just republicans.

5. True, he's out of office now.
Besides, I wrote him off back when he jumped the Ron Paul shark. There was no way I could take him seriously after that.

9. Not much of a track record to go on but looks good so far.
He's a shitload better than the blue dog he replaced. He wants to cut defense spending and raise taxes on the wealthy, so I'll second your nomination.

As another DUer likes to say, you know them by their works.

12. Pete DeFazio
DeFazio has refused to accept congressional pay raises while the government is deficit spending, and has linked his pay to Social Security cost-of-living adjustments. Instead, he has used his pay raises to reduce the national debt and to fund scholarships at five southwestern Oregon community colleges; by the end of 2013, DeFazio will have contributed $363,000 of after-tax salary toward 227 scholarships and debt reduction. He counts these scholarships among his proudest accomplishments.

13. He works pretty hard for the timber industry.
I don't know how much they spend on him, but they should.

18. I agree - DeFazio
Pete DeFazio is my member of Congress. He does a great job representing me. Oregon has struggled for a long time to figure out the right answer to jobs and the timber industry. He has vocal supporters and vocal opponents among the environmental groups and the timber companies. As you might expect from someone who actually works to address the problem.

19. Ah, one of my favorite questions to the "anti-GUBmint" people.
We all know, of course, when a dumbass says "guvernment" as a snarl word, it's codespeak for "LIBRULS LIBRULS TAX AND SPENDOCRATS".
However . . . http://www.democraticunderground.com/10021056981 "I want you to name me 20 progressives, out of 535 members of the House and Senate.
TWENTY. TWO. ZERO. When I say "progressive", I mean "Bernie Sanders" or more leftward. Hell, let's say Al Franken and Sherrod Brown (both of whom support the odious SOPA and PIPA bills, BTW). NOT economic centrists/social liberals or vice-versa. I mean honest-to-goodness, old-Democratic-values-having, FDR, Democratic Socialism-favoring progressives. 20!! (snip) Now, here we go . . . Strong enough support for universal health care to push forth legislation once and for all? A handful at best. Stronger bankster/CEO regulation? Not seeing it. The Lloyd Bankfiends and CEO Industry are just as brazen with their lottery pay and corporate fuckery as ever. Higher taxes than Clinton-era levels on the wealthy? Not in THIS House, chumpstain. It's gonna be gridlock, gridlock, gridlock until we get what we want! TRULY, as in pull-the-hell-out-NOW ending these useless, purposeless, pointless, tax-wasting Bewsh 43 occupations? There's still a military presence in each one and Afghanistan still continues as the 10 year meatgrinder it's always been. These wars cost nearly 3 trillion . . . where's your outrage? Not in the House. Not in the Senate. Not in the Executive, and especially not in the purchased Judicial. You say you're 'anti-government'? DITTOHEAD, PLEASE. You're more 'government' than I am. You got more regressive bastards in your government on your side than I have knowledgeable thinkers by a country mile. 20 progressives. All that you think's wrong with this country, suppressing your delicate ass. NAME 'EM NOW. I'll consume my left arm if you can." |
