I know it has been a rough year, but we still have things to be grateful for right? For me it is the ability to come on here and argue politics and issues. As much as we gripe,at least we can without having the storm troopers at our door.

(68,515 posts)I'm a huge fan of President Obama, and think he's doing an outstanding job, considering the staggering forces arrayed against him for the sole purpose of being against him. And I know not all DU-ers feel that way. And that's fine.
But we should be thankful that he's President, and not the Mormon Muttonhead.

(10,291 posts)I am thankful for some long needed Democratic unity, and hopeful to see more balls. (<<===I was going to say 'gumption', but what I really meant was balls. Sorry if it's rude) I am thankful for DU (sans the R S T L N E ers) I am thankful for every bully who gives me an opening. They won't be a bully for long. I am thankful for my Irish temper because it never lasts long but serves me when I need it.
I am thankful that America seems to be waking up to their tricks (at long last) and even right wingers seem to be running from their own platforms.
Maybe they will grow.
That takes courage.
I have hope.

(4,558 posts)I'm posting from a hospital waiting room, and am thankful that there's a good MRI machine in town. I'm thankful that my wife's cancer has not spread as much as we previously thought.
But to keep it topical, I'm thankful that she was just approved for medicare, so we have less financial stress in our future.
I have more to be thankful for every day.

(37,748 posts)You're right about that. I think that as we have the opportunity to freely exchange any ideas, criticisms and/or dialog about our own governments-- on a message board viewed by tens of thousands across both the nation and the planet without fear of being legally silenced, prosecuted or persecuted for it, we're doing a lot better than we often give ourselves credit for.
However this year, my major thanks are on a personal level-- I have a job I don't dread waking up to, I was notified of another raise effective at the beginning of the year, I had the opportunity to buy my mother a gift she's been wanting her entire adult life, and one of my oldest and best friends will be staying at my apartment for the Thanksgiving weekend, where we'll catch up, watch movies, go out to dinner with friends, and enjoy some much needed time off.
