Mark Wahlberg Shooting A&E Reality Series Based on Teamsters Local 25

A&E has announced that Mark Wahlberg will be heading back home to Boston next month to shoot a reality pilot about the unsung heroes of Teamsters Local 25. Calling the Teamsters “one of the greatest unions in the world and the backbone of the middle class,” the project is personal for Wahlberg as his late father/hero was a Local 25 truck driver. In the acclaimed film, “The Fighter,” character Micky Ward toils for the Local 25 on movie sets.

Wahlberg, who has produced “Entourage,” “Boardwalk Empire,” and “In Treatment” for HBO has said that his new show is more than a “reality” show.

This show will be about quality stuff,” he said. “It’s really more a docu-drama than a reality series. Because when you say ‘reality show,’ people think ‘Jersey Shore.’ Hey, I watch it and I’m entertained. But this show will be entertaining because it’s a fascinating world the Teamsters live in and there’s drama on a daily basis.”

Show Creator Bill Thompson has said that the inspiration for making a show about the everyday lives of union brothers and sisters came from watching fed up workers storm the State Capital in Madison last year.
