I Have A Question For The Class... Why Doesn't The President Embarrass Them...

I'm talking about the Republicans here...

He HAS The Bully Pulpit... why doesn't he go on TV and shame the shit out of them.

They have NO PROBLEM doing it to him.

He's one hell of a campaigner...

And playing nice definitely doesn't work.

1. Wouldn't want to piss them off. They might refuse to work with him.

Oh, wait.

9. Or he values being able to triangulate off of them

If they move to the left, he'll have to move left also.

2. Because as much as we'd cheer it when we see it on C-Span, it wouldn't actually DO anything

This isn't a Jimmy Stewart movie, you can't embarrass an asshole into not being an asshole. They'll just get even more ashole-ish 'cause you pointed it out.

He's in there until January 2017. They can't change that. That's already a huge embarrassment for them. How about we get some of the people running for office next year to do the embarassing? keeps it fresh, gives it impact.

6. Yeah, it would.

If he started doing it now and kept the heat on, it would have an appreciable effect in the mid-terms. It would motivate people to turn out by lighting a fire under them, showing them that he was done playing nice with the GOP or believing bullshit on the importance of compromise. It'd reinforce that the failure to get anything done is the fault of the GOP, show he wants to get something done and provide a motivation to send the GOP bums home.

7. I think you give the president too much impact, there.

It's really not his fault if you're too lazy to go vote, you know.

3. One of the most obvious questions

I've wondered about that since inauguration day 2008. At this point I can only conclude Obama is either complicit or constrained, because he's not stupid.

You are not the teacher, either.

8. It's as if he IS one of them

He missed his window of opportunity. I knew it was MOR all the way from then on. Had no idea it would be a "do-nothing Congress". But I did know the media would never call them on anything.

I'm supposed to be happy it's not batshit loopy Romney or McCain, however.

10. Funny....

when Obama gives a speech, people complain that he's just giving a stupid, silly useless speech.

Then the same folks turn around and demand that Obama goes on TV and use the bully pulpit.

Can't have it both ways, dawg.

13. I Disagree...There Have Been Flashes Of Brilliance From Barack Obama...

He CAN reduce them to weak-kneed fools...

The question... at this moment in history... is why does he keep taking his foot off the pedal ???

15. There's a difference between giving a speech and LEADING

A speech is just words. It's air. Leading is something else. It requires someone stand up and say, "This is where we are going, this is the destination, this is how we get there, follow me."

As in having a plan that involves more than saying woe is me, if only those mean old Republicans would resign I would maybe propose something they didn't write themselves.

12. He shares most of their corporatist agenda. They only differ on some social issues, and

only those that don't impact corporate bottom lines.
