Breaking: Sen. Levin Wants Limbaugh Dropped From AFN Network!

by StuHunterFollow

Senator Carl Levin, chairman of the Armed services Committee has called for the Armed Services Network to drop Rush Limbaugh from their airwaves.

(CNN) - Sen. Carl Levin, the powerful chairman of the Armed Services Committee, said Wednesday he would like the Armed Forces Network to drop the controversial Rush Limbaugh program from its service that provides radio and television shows to U.S. service members around the world.

"I would hope the people that run it see just how offensive this is and drop it on their own volition," Levin told CNN in an exclusive interview in the Capitol.

"I think that is probably an issue that should be left to the folks that run that network," he said. "In other words, I'd love to see them drop it but I don't think I'd legislate it."

The liberal leaning advocacy group Vote Vets and other progressive voices in the blogosphere have called for the AFN to drop Limbaugh's program.

This is a significant development and it's very important that everybody send their emails to the AFN to take Limbaugh off their radio broadcasts.

Limbaugh's statements last week help to divide our armed services by gender. The women who serve our country deserve better than to have a misogynist broadcasting to our brave soldiers in uniform.

Let Senator Levin know your feelings about Rush Limbaugh and the AFN:

I never understood WHY the crappy radio show is being rammed down people's throats!! As if rl is some sort of 'official' spokesperson for the government!

How did that come to be, anyway?

There were so many vile things bushco pulled during those 8 terrifying years. I know it's pointless to say it, but how I wish Al Gore had been able to take his rightful seat as the true winner in 2000. Can you imagine what a different world it would be today?

while the rest of us were distracted because I sure don't remember hearing anything about it at the time. I think it was done pretty quietly and perhaps presented as a fait accompli. We know how sneaky the repukes can be.

The troops really don't need access to radio talk show hosts. There is enough stupidity on tv for them to listen.

People of Color and Women and GLBT in the Military should not have to be subject of his racists and hatefiled show.

I wish the Cable News shows would have the Female Vets on to talk why they would like Rush off of AFN.

In Afghanistan, Limbaugh’s comments have been a frequent topic of conversation among some troops. While many troops, both male and female, find the comments disrespectful to the female soldiers with whom they serve, Limbaugh does not have much of a following overseas, says one American soldier in deployed to Afghanistan, who was not authorized to speak about Limbaugh.

“No one in the Army listens to [him] anyway,” he adds. “AFN carries him for the retired white 65 to 90 crowd.”
