Bachmann: 'End Times' Are Coming

Bachmann: 'End Times' Are Coming Because Obama Is Supporting Al-Qaeda
October 7, 2013, 6:00 PM EDT

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) claims the end of days is near, and as proof the former Republican presidential candidate cited President Barack Obama's decision last month to support Syrian rebels, which she calls al-Qaeda terrorists, with anti-chemical weapons gear and limited arms.

“This happened and as of today the United States is willingly, knowingly, intentionally sending arms to terrorists, now what this says to me, I’m a believer in Jesus Christ, as I look at the End Times scripture, this says to me that the leaf is on the fig tree and we are to understand the signs of the times, which is your ministry, we are to understand where we are in God’s end times history," Bachmann told Jan Markell, radio host of "Understanding the Times," on Saturday.

“Rather than seeing this as a negative, we need to rejoice, Maranatha Come Lord Jesus, His day is at hand,” Bachmann added later. “And so when we see up is down and right is called wrong, when this is happening, we were told this; that these days would be as the days of Noah. We are seeing that in our time. Yes it gives us fear in some respects because we want the retirement that our parents enjoyed. Well they will, if they know Jesus Christ.”

There are definitely enough of the whacko righties that believe in all their hocus-pocus religious stuff. But I am convinced that many of the politicians that publicly espouse this and even the big-haired televangelists are just opportunists. They see a vulnerable population that will believe whatever crap comes out of your mouth if accompanied by the words Jesus Christ.

I still see some of these as being nothing more than shills that use religion as a way to gain power and control over the lives of weak-minded people.

They become frightened people.
It is a terrifying way to live, as a liar.

It invokes an unconscious terror.
People may be cheery and bold on
the outside, but there is gnawing
unease, disease, for liars.

Truth itself becomes frightening. Dark vague
shadows, made of lies, haunt the psyche.

The drug for fear is religion.

Put all the responsibiilty on a God of
one's own invention.

Then you don't have to face yourself.

They don't get the concept of natural law,

Stuff like this is the main reason that I have come too believe that they are strictly money-making enterprises that use power and fear to sway people into obeying.

I believe that a higher being exists but I wouldn't give 2 shits for ANY religion.....or what it says about God!

Although, I must say, I do like this new Pope! He seems to really like people and wants to bring them into his fold rather than scare them away. But he could be faking, too - time will tell......

Back in 2008 before the election a black Christian woman told me that she was not going to Vote for Obama because the bible says one of the signs of the end of times is that a Brown man will rule the nations

True story, A lot of Christians believe this. infact her batshit crazy pastor was preaching on it. That is why a lot of these people are so freaked out about President Obama.

Of course I had to point out to her that at the time the bible was written the US didn't exist and it's hardly ruling "the Nations" if he is the President of ONE country. She said,"Ohhhh" SMH

Mon Oct 7, 2013, 09:55 PM
Oct 2013

Not from any Bible translation I've ever read. A brown man might one day rule the nations - or a black or a white one - but it has absolutely nothing to do with the Bible proper. People have been predicting the end of the world for millenia and we're still here. Meanwhile those liars have caused absolute panics where people sold or gave away everything they had, then sat in the middle of the road waiting for the Second Coming. When it didn't happen, some of them really lost their minds, believing themselves to have been 'left behind' or they killed themselves. And/or maybe the supposed cleric who snookered them and ruined their lives.

However, when talking about George Bush saying that God spoke to him....she said "Bullshit" she always attended Church and always taught Sunday School. NO not ALL Christians ARE the same. She was a "Christian" that followed the teachings of Jesus Christ. You know the very point of the entire movement? As did Thomas Jefferson...

It's not about "certain parts" to them...its about the underlying message being taught by a prophet. The core being the Sermon on the Mount. And apparently YOU don't even know what THAT is.

The New Testament and Old Testaments are NOT ONE....these are two books....Mormons believe they have a Third Testament.

She didnt believe it was the literal word of God...many Do! She believed in allegory...Therefore your theory is false...

The Old Testament is DIRECT JEWISH Law coming straight from the Torah...written BEFORE Jesus Christ (you know the whole reason FOR the religion)....She followed Christ...not Jewish Law.

You should really know more about the nuances of the Religion before you speak about it. One thing you don't seem to know is....the Bible is not ONE book. It is a collection of books written by different authors...

In fact there were other books considered and not included in the "library" called The Bible.

Sorry to be the one to break that to you.
Being a Christian is not a negative. I never said it was. But to refuse to acknowledge that they all pick and choose what parts of the bible are true for them is intellectual dishonesty on your part.
And your not excoriating me, you are venting your frustration at being unable to grasp the larger concept being discussed here.

On Wednesday, U.S. Rep. According to Right Wing Watch, the event, held in the Capitol’s Statuary Hall, was called “Washington: A Man of Prayer.”

she couldn't really believe in Jesus Christ - at least not the Jesus Christ I learned about in 14 years of Catholic school (pre-K to senior year of high school). I was taught that to follow Christ, you had to keep his commandments. Love God. Love thy neighbor as thyself. With special endorsement of the Beatitudes and those little items tucked into the book of Matthew and elsewhere about "whatever you do to the least of these, you do to Me."

THAT'S why I say she can't possibly be a true Christian. She can certainly claim that she is. I'm not supposed to be judgmental, either, mind you. She can go ahead and wrap herself around the Cross of Christ all day every day and 30 times on Sunday. And we all know she does as often as possible, especially when there are cameras and microphones nearby. But the values she vocalizes and preaches to her followers strike me as ANYTHING but what Jesus taught. She thinks it's just fine to shit on the least of these - the poor, the homeless, the sick, the abandoned, the "wretched refuse" as it were - the same ones who are mentioned on the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty in that "Give me your tired, your poor..." poem.

Just silly little stupid stuff like that...

Heck, even Paul-the-Hardass conceded as much in 1 Corinthians. Yes, he who also thundered to people about how they can't eat if they don't work - ALSO said if you talk the talk but don't walk the walk, you're no better than a noisy gong and a clanging cymbal.

Her talk is so crazy that any word could fit in there, but yeah, "maranatha" sort of fits. It is one of those terms that is used primarily in fundamentalist pentecostal circles. Mainline Christians pretty much never use it. Fundies tend to use it with a certain intonation, almost breathlessly, and it is usually (as far as I remember) in reference to their desire that Christ should come soon.

Mon Oct 7, 2013, 09:30 PM
Oct 2013

does Michele Bachman have some insight on fig cookies? I really liked Fig Newtons but have been disappointed with the quality so it has been a while.
Perhaps she was speaking of the end of her days, that is free days if she is found to be involved in the Iowa thing being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Intuition.
I am hopeful that she will gradually move out of the public spotlight as all if us need comic relief every now and then.

She has been given a free pass, the FBI investigation is over (Privately) since there have been no formal statements by anyone. She got away with it folks, the Koch Brothers have insured that, the corporate plutocracy has assured that. We live in a fucking plutocracy, forget the letter by the name, R, I, D. They are all corporate executives with some sort of letter by their name. Its fucking over, we lost!!!!!!!!

Many responsible scholars believe the Book of Revelation was a way for early Christians to encourage each other through the Roman occupation. Had nothing to do with the future at all. It was written as if for the future so if it fell into Roman hands, there'd be less backlash - it would be laughed off as the ravings of a lunatic. Some scholars who reject that view say that the man exiled on Patmos was NOT John the Apostle and maybe not even anyone named John. Back in those days people often wrote things 'in the spirit of' the person they wished to honor. The best theologian I had a chance to study under was one of those on 'The Jesus Project' decades ago that set the fundie world aflame. He held with the first view. Regional culture of the day was very symbolic and many actual/probable truths are buried under a ton of it for various and sundry reasons. My teacher would've called Bachman batshit crazy too.

He podcasts regularly, often daily.

Yup, he's a Republican. But he's also an outspoken atheist who knows the Bible back and forth. He is also a Jesus Myth adherent, mainly because of lack of confirming historic evidence, the discordant stories within the Bible, and the mythical predecessors to many of the Jesus' alleged history.

He's a guilty pleasure of mine. Brilliant, but an outcast. And sadly, a partisan Republican. But he talks an aweful lot about the Bible, which is very interesting.

Here's his podcast:
http://www.robertmprice.mindvendor.com/biblegeek.php

The guy's a radical, just like those 19th century Bible reformers. He pushes the envelope on Biblical criticism.

Just FYI.

You ought to drop in on the DU Religion Forum. Lots of good stuff there, but too few theologians. I'm into physics, myself. But religion fascinates me.

I'm not personally fond of extremism even though many others in religion think I am. You wouldn't believe the things I've been called - heretic, pagan, humanist, you name it. None of it bothers me. Possibly true and not what I consider an insult anyway. The main thing is that I've never seen a valid argument between healthy religion and science.

As Joseph Campbell used to say, a lot of the perceived conflict is really between science and those who insist on strict and total Biblical literalism. The latter can't see the forest for the trees. Not to mention they're actually guilty of idolatry by worshiping the book rather than its source. When you stop seeing yourself as the center of the universe and look outward towards the marvels it holds, reverential awe comes easily. I'm equally happy in a Universalist congregation.

And believe me, if I'd been in attendance anywhere that the pastor or priest indulged in partisan political stuff, I'd walk out and never return. If someone dared accuse me of turning my back on God, I'd answer, "No, I'm turning my back on you."

93. Bachmann doesn't even know the Bible, apparently
Mon Oct 7, 2013, 09:59 PM
Oct 2013

She's referring, probably, to Revelation 6.13, which says:

And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.

The problem she has, besides not knowing the Bible, is all the end times prophecies came to pass during the administrations of Reagan, Bush I and Bush II.

Reagan was the Antichrist - his full name is "Ronald Wilson Reagan." People like to twist Shrub around into the Antichrist by explaining that the German spelling of his last name, Busche, has six letters. Well...that's true, but Reagan ALSO has six letters.

The Horsemen came later...

The Horseman of Conquest (the white-horse one) is Donald Rumsfeld. Near as I can tell, the "white horse" he rode in on was actually a train car full of NutraSweet, which Donald Rumsfeld "called in his markers" to get approved while he was president of the company that invented it.

The Horseman of War (who rides the red horse) is Colin Powell...he and his spurious intelligence that lied the United Nations into allowing us to invade Iraq because Dick Cheney's oil is under Saddam Hussein's sand.

The Horseman of Famine is, of course, George W. Bush. Said the horseman when he came forth, "do not damage the oil and the wine." The night before Shrub invaded Iraq, he told the people of that nation not to damage its oil production facilities.

And the Horseman of Death, without question, is Dick Cheney. Ask Harry Whittington about that one. (You'll like this: if you go to google.com and type in "who did dick," the first autofill choice is "who did dick cheney shoot?&quot

The Scripture uses figs as a metaphor for early Christians and a high wind blowing them off trees before they're ripe as a metaphor for the havoc Caesar was wreaking on them. It doesn't say anything about the leaves, and Bachmann did.

Bachmann truly believes President Obama and the Democrats to be Caligula and the Roman Legions gearing up to destroy Christianity. And she's got a LOT of followers who believe exactly the same way. It's quite obvious that being ordered to buy health insurance is exactly the same as crucifixion or being thrown to the lions.

in the last 1700 years. It's been claimed over and over again for generations. It was even written into the earliest bible texts about 1700 years ago. The bible's Jesus texts have him even saying it. It's as old as the New Testament's myths and is usually interpreted as in the far future but the text doesn't even say that. It becomes another convenient way to control a human flock of sheep. It's repeated and repeated by every deluded Christian leader who wants to stir fear and ecstasy into his audience.

When will people figure this con out?

SHUT. THE. FUCK. UP.

Dear Rep. Arglebarglewargh (R-MN):

Do us all a favor. The next time "God tells you" to speak about your faith, just shut up. I don't care if it's the Dove of Peace tickling your heart, or the Holy Ghost stealing your car keys, just shut the fuck up.

You want to believe in the impending arrival of Terminator Jesus? Fine. You're pantingly impatient for the coming of the 12th Imam? Cool. You want to believe that a homicidal Santa Claus straddling a sleigh equipped with Stinger missiles, mini-guns and VX canisters will be sent from Heaven to separate the sheep from the goats on the Last Day? Have at it.

But do us a favor - while you're a federal elected official and (amazingly enough) one of the people in charge of creating federal law, do us all a favor, and shut the fuck up.

Do you know why that might be a good idea? Do you know why you might not want to publicly announce that you share the omnicidal blood-drenched dreams of the dullest and most fearful of those who support you?

Well, I'll tell you, Rep. Arglebarglewargh - because when you get the armed morons moving, it's kind of hard to stop them. When you solicit the votes of people who don't know the difference between a Sunni and Sunny Delight, who can't tell Rome from a Roma tomato, and couldn't find India on a map with a gun to their head, tell them that the President of the United States is in league with Al Qaeda, and then invoke a bunch of sub-Left Behind apocalyptic bullshit, you know what happens?

A few of them are likely to start cleaning the guns and loading up the truck. A few of them are likely to start hosing down the fertilizer with diesel fuel. And then, eventually, someone or two or three turn the key in the ignition and head for the Beltway, or the Federal Building, or the Statehouse so that they can strike a blow for Terminator Jesus, just like you told them to.

So do them, and us and yourself a favor.

Shut. The. Fuck. Up.

Do you want to know what her major concern is?

“We are seeing that in our time. Yes it gives us fear in some respects because we want the retirement that our parents enjoyed. Well they will, if they know Jesus Christ.”

If the apocalypse comes, she’s worried that she won’t get her retirement. She is not worried about fire and brimstone, no siree. She’s not even breaking a sweat over the three horsemen and the plague and crap. She is worried that she won’t get retirement. Yeah, that would be my big concern, too. ”Lord, do not come while there’s still a dollar in my retirement account.”

“Rather than seeing this as a negative, we need to rejoice, Maranatha Come Lord Jesus, His day is at hand,” Bachmann added later.

So if Obama is bringing about something to rejoice, why the hell are you so damn mean to him? That’s the part I don’t get.

No, that’s not true. The part I really don’t get is how she remembers to breathe.
