4. I saw the exhibit twice

(it's very near my house)
just so I could go and take photos when there were no guards - also because the portraits were simply wonderful.

His was the portrait with the biggest price tag. For a mere 6800 dollars it could be mine.

5. It's very striking, isn't it?

$6,800 is a bargain, not that many of us can afford it.

16. Wow, that really is a bargain.

It's not as if I can write the check right now, but maybe you, living there, could put together a group of friends, get the money together, and have a written agreement as to how the portrait rotates among all of you.

19. Now that's creative thinking.

The drawback - as in all human interactions involving money - who would get to claim ownership, and who could leave it to their children?

I think it ought to be bought by a place that can display it to the largest possible audience, especially in NC.
(like a NASCAR lobby, behind bullet proof glass)
I jest, I'm so jaded.

The painting is glorious in showing the President in all his brilliance, bridled power, and beauty.
I felt augmented to just stand in front of it.

23. I was thinking along the lines of

however many it takes, hopefully no more than ten people, to come up with the money to buy that wonderful picture of our President (our only president, as Molly Ivins would say) and put in writing exactly how it would be shared.

If it only takes six of you, each person could have the painting for two months each year.

But to instead buy it, again with group funds, and display it in a public place, is likewise a very nice idea.

24. Still like your thinking

but suddenly it occurs that if I were FLOTUS I'd like to know about this one.

She has the money, and she would be able to spot immediately just how powerfully this painting captures the essence of her husband.

3. His eyes have great depth of expression, and the artist has captured that in this painting.

17. The eyes have it!

Miriam Durkin has amazing talent. The eyes in this portrait and the one of Obama seem to look in to your soul.

I thank you so very much!

11. interesting: undefined negative space

Gorgeous portrait, as are the others that I can see.
Interesting that in his portrait, the artist did not paint the negative space -- as if to say that all possibilities were open?
Thanks SO much for sharing!

21. Thanks for this link!

In a day or so - seeing by the quotes she chooses that this woman is one who would like to know about us if she does not already - I may write to her and send her a link of this thread.
To me, a painter in oils, but not yet fully realized, it will be like touching perfection. I think her work just sings.

One is drawn to the determined look on his face, one we have seen during serious times. Beautifully done. Thanks for posting this, Mira.
