What safe guards are in place in this country to protect against an attempted coup d'etat?

Because that's what's going on here. A small group of radicals is attempting to bring our government down.

3. America is a really big place. That's the primary safeguard, IMO.

10. Agree also. The people may have to go to D.C. to protect the Presidency

and the Republic. A sea of citizens to fill the Capitol - peacefully but in huge numbers.

5. Eh. Not a coup d'etat. Petulant grandstanding, yeah. Extremist gaggle, yeah.

Blatant obstructionism, yeah. No where near a coup though.

6. As long as the ability to buy members of Congress and spread misinformation exists, there aren't any

The Koch brothers - as despicable as they are - under Citizens - could theoretically buy all seats of Congress and declare themselves dictators.

9. The Koch Bros. must be arrested for sedition

They're actively plotting this coup attempt in Congress, using teabagger rethugs as pawns in their evil game.

12. Let's keep the focus on the Koch Bros

and those of their ilk. They're funding this disaster.

14. They're the ringleaders

The Kochs don't like publicity, especially bad press. So let's expose them as the traitors they are.

21. "Arrest" them in their tracks

I don't think you mean literally arrest them but they can be exposed to the light and that will slow them down a bit.

13. November 22, 1963 was a coup.

This has not reached that level yet.

16. Hyperbole

Some pretty extravagant terms can be applied to the the GOP's hostage-taking strategy, but all of it is happening in accordance with Constitutional procedures. That is NOT a coup d'etat.
