5. Except that it wasn't just one election.

It was many. This isn't a parliamentary unicameral system. The House Republicans can, not illegitimately, claim that by virtue of their majority numbers as a result of elections they should be able to at least have some say in setting policy.

That they should be able to dictate the the whole ball game? No, not a bit.
