Grayson gets new Republican opponent

WASHINGTON -- Another Republican has jumped into the race to challenge U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson -- and this time it’s Carol Platt, an executive with the Osceola County Association of Realtors with longstanding ties to the Bush political dynasty.

Platt worked on both George W. Bush’s run for president and Jeb Bush’s run for governor and she was appointed by Jeb Bush to serve on one of Central Florida’s local community college Board of Trustees. In joining the fight for Florida’s 9th Congressional District, Platt joins at least two other Republicans -- Jorge Bonilla Jr. and Peter Vivaldi -- looking to defeat one of the most outspoken Democrats in the U.S. House.

“If I am honored to earn enough Republicans’ support in the primary, the differences between Congressman Grayson and I will be plentiful in record, views, substance and style,” she said in a statement.

She’ll have a tough hill to climb, however. The 9th Congressional District, which includes Osceola County and parts of Orange and Polk, is heavily Democratic and Grayson is a prolific fundraiser.

8. Responding is really not all that it's cut out to be.

My rep was John Mica and back in the Clinton years he use to hand write his responses in blue felt pen. After a while I realized our political differences were too great and it just got too depressing. I didn't even realize he was my rep again!

That's how much I've disconnected from a system that has turned a blind eye to the corruption that goes on around me.
