Speaking at an energy conference today in Maryland, Clinton said Americans should embrace the $7-billion project.
The extra cost of running it is infinitesimal compared to (potential) revenues, Clinton said, according to Bloomberg. We should embrace it and develop a stakeholder-driven system of high standards for doing the work.
Clinton blamed TransCanada for not realizing the pipelines original route from the oil sands near Fort McMurray, Alta., to refineries in Texas crossed through sensitive habitat in Nebraska.
Obama rejected that route, saying more work needed to be done to provide environmental protection.

(4,840 posts)to impose even stricter environmental standards and operation laws in exchange for allowing them to build it? Or make a deal that solar and wind would, as a compromise, have to be massively funded to the point of phasing out fossil fuel and nuclear.

Building it might not bring on the apocalypse but there are plenty of reasons to make sure it doesn't, you know, screw up the environment where people already live.
