Democrat? Vote in Mich. primary 2/28/12, for Santorum; to discredit Romney in his home state

Michigan has an "open primary"; that is, Democrats can vote in the Republican primary.

So what is the best way for Democrats to manipulate the Republican primary? Nearly all the commentators are saying that Democrats should vote for Santorum.

Why? Because a win for Santorum 1) discredits Romney, in his own state.

And then too? 2) If Santorum goes on to take the nomination, and become his party's candidate? Santorum appears to be very weak against Obama. Weaker than Romney.

If Sick Rick can keep momentum by beating Mittens, that is good for us. Sick Rick would be our dream GOP nominee. We'd crush him in Nov. Do it !

If you are going to be a disruptor then sound like a person who is actually in a the group you wish to persuade. Geesh.

4. It is an open primary, voting in it is not disrupting it

the whole idea is to allow everyone to have their opinion counted. Not voting in it would be disruptive to the system.

Polls open in less than 40 minutes and I will be voting for Santorum.

5. Let's think about this a little

I don't think that Dems voting for InSanitorium in MI does much harm.

First, MI splits the delegates by congressional districts, so InSanitorium is going to get about half of them regardless (if things go as projected).

However, there's also a downside: InSanitorium could get the nod for Nov and beat Obama. I'm not saying it's likely but it certainly is the worse case scenerio.

So, what do we do?

I've personally come to the conclusion that if InSanitorium can win in Nov then so can Rmoney. For this reason I'll be casting my vote --- as will several of my liberal friends --- for InSanitorium today.

8. Thanks for your careful consideration. Noting some downside even to a Mr. Sanctimonius candidacy

I'd agree with your reasoning here; there's some slight risk in voting for Mr. Sanitary Tablet.

But? Looks like the odds favor this vote, at this time.

By the way though? We should look out for this one: Ricky could turn the national election into an alleged referendum for Christianity; Christianity vs. everyone else. Which could be a tough, dirty campaign.

But that would drive many moderates over to Obama in Nov... Or that's the hypothesis.

Again, we're all just guessing here. But I still think a monkey wrench thrown into the Repugs' electoral process helps us. After all they've been overtly doing much worse to Dems for decades. I'll just be exercising my legal right in an open election.

This is the text from rendering a sample ballot from the state of Michigan's website, it specifically states its a closed primary, so are deems allowed to vote or no? The word closed is also in quotes? (I did not place quotes in the text below). Wonder if I will be turned away voting as a registered dem? And voting for Satanioum? Using the link below which generated this text:

https://webapps.sos.state.mi.us/mivote/votersearch.aspx

"Special Information for Presidential Primary: The Presidential Primary to be held on February 28, 2012 will be conducted as a “closed” primary. The sample ballot below includes candidate information for both the Republican Party and the Democratic Party. When you go to the polls on Election Day or apply for an absentee ballot, however, you must request either a Republican Party or a Democratic Party ballot which will include only the candidates of the party you select. If a special election is conducted in conjunction with the Presidential Primary, the special election information will appear on both the Republican and Democratic ballots. You will also have the option of selecting a ballot that excludes Presidential Primary information and includes only special election information."

13. Looks like someone is playing illegal word games, in Michigan government

Traditionally the MI primary is open. But somebody on the MI gov. election web site though, is trying to imply it is not. However? They can't really do that without violating rules. So they put it in quotes: this primary is "'closed,'" they claim.

If called on this, probably they will say that they merely ment that you cannot vote for/in BOTH the Republican section, AND the Democrat section too? Does that seem to fit here? But the wording is in fact, highly misleading and prejudicial.

Thanks for noting this. See if you can document it/copy it. Then call the biggest liberal TV station in MI, with the story. Quick.

This looks like a dirty trick by someone in MI government.

By the way? Santorum himself is apparently urging Democrats to vote for him, in the Republican primary section.

Democrats who want to take part in the Michigan primary should vote for whichever one of these assclowns they find the least terrifying. (I'm not sure this is even possible.)

But to vote for Santorum because we perceive (in February!) that he's the weaker candidate against Obama, and to let him keeping taking states? No. If the Republican party thinks that this guy is really popular, they will make him their king.
