Priest Denies Lesbian Communion...At Her Mother's Funeral

Priest Walks Out Of Woman’s Funeral Because Of Her Gay Daughter
February 26, 2012

My friend Barbara, the daughter of the deceased woman, was denied communion at her mother’s funeral. She was the first in line and Fr. Guarnizo covered the bowl containing the host and said to her, “I cannot give you communion because you live with a woman and that is a sin according to the church.” To add insult to injury, Fr. Guarnizo left the altar when she delivered her eulogy to her mother. When the funeral was finished he informed the funeral director that he could not go to the gravesite to deliver the final blessing because he was sick.

I will tell you a little about the woman who drove that priest from the altar. She is kind, she is smart, she is funny and she works hard promoting the arts. She pays her bills, she cares deeply for her family and she loved her mother and her mother loved her right back. And now she will never set foot in a Catholic church again and who can blame her?

3. Anyone who knows her should shove her at the Episcopalians

which is what I do with Catholic believers who are fed up with the antiwoman, antigay, tolerant of child rape hierarchy.

The C of E kept the best of Catholicism, IMO, while discarding the millstone of the Vatican.

4. Living with a woman is not a sin, ASS. The sin would be making assumptions and shaming someone

because of those assumptions. Get this man off the altar.

5. I live with a woman--

I'm a dude, though-so it is, apparently, ok.

I hope he was sick and puked up the meat and blood, which the host and wine turned into as he consumed it.

6. See if that had happened to me

I would have knocked the bowl out of his hand, fell on the floor started rolling around and speaking in tounges, that would shut him up real fast.

7. I'm afraid I would have lost my temper and told him to go home, his presence was not

needed. I don't take bullshit from people like that. n/t

8. What's the difference between God and Fr. Guarnizo?

God doesn't think he's Father Guarnizo.

I wonder if his parish cashes the offering checks from Barbara?

9. The priest is wrong here per Catholic Tradition.

Living with another woman is NOT a sin. Sexual intercourse outside of marriage (be it gay or straight) is a sin per the Catholic tradition. He has no way of knowing whether they live as sisters or lovers. He made assumptions he should not have made.

10. The RCC are known assholes. When one choses to assosiate with known assholes,

one should expect asshole behavior. Choosing to associate with the RCC is just as foolish as choosing to associate with the KKK, unless of course, that person fits within the narrow definition of acceptable.

12. My guess, he wasn't sick.

He wanted to bugger a choir boy while everyone else was at the cemetery.

14. The Episcopal Church (you know, the one with the lesbian bishop)

....welcomes everyone, especially those who have been driven away from their original faith communities. [link:http://www.integritynycmetro.org| has a list of NYC churches and we can help anyone find a local one.
