Righties put their paranoia on display with report that Fox News has 'gone gay'

A handful of fringe anti-gay activists are having a meltdown over a “report” that alleges Fox News harbors a “growing pro-homosexual bias,” ignoring the network’s ongoing track record of smearing and stoking fears about LGBT people and LGBT equality.

On August 14, the xenophobic, Islamophobic, and homophobic right-wing group America’s Survival published a “report” documenting Fox News’ alleged “growing pro-homosexual bias,” citing the network’s ties to the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association (NLGJA) and occasionally favorable coverage of marriage equality by personalities like hosts Megyn Kelly and Shepard Smith.

The rambling, 40,000-word report was written by Peter LaBarbera, president of one of the fringiest anti-gay hate groups in America – Americans for Truth About Homosexuality (AFTAH). It’s already being touted by other anti-gay hate mongers, including the American Family Association’s (AFA) Bryan Fischer.

As Mother Jones points out, it should go without saying that Fox News has “not in the least bit ‘gone gay.’” The network’s inaccurate and often times bigoted coverage of LGBT issues is extensive and well-documented. Some of the worst examples from just the past two months include:
* Attacking a California law that would protect transgender students as “anarchy and madness”
* Accusing President Obama of being secretly gay
* Peddling lies about a proposed LGBT non-discrimination ordinance in San Antonio
* Mocking “transvestites” and “gays” at a historic New York parade
* Predicting that marriage equality will cause the collapse of civilization
* Referring to a transgender woman as a “burly man wearing a dress”

"Huh... so, gays might be people too?"

Rush and Hannity are losing their radio contracts, which means that FOX now sees that they need someone other than pudgy white men to disseminate their hate speech and corporate misinformation...

...which is why they are getting ready to move Megyn Kelly into Hannity's prime-time slot.

She is Axis Sally on steroids. Frankly, I'm surprised they waited this long to make this move...

I've seen conversations stop when Megyn Kelly's face pops up on the screen. She could tell FOX viewers that the Earth is flat and that the Sun revolves around it and they would probably believe the cute little blonde MILF.

BTW, MILF is exactly why she is getting the gig, not my personal feelings...

The timing of Kelly's ascent couldn't be better now that we are also being subjected to "Chicks on the Right."

FOX is fishing for women, and Kelly is perfect for the job.

9. FOX is rebranding for women

They have figured out, in advance of the 2014 midterms, that they need to package the message of pudgy white men in something other than a pudgy white man...

Rush's downfall is big news and is being taken very seriously, even if he doesn't actually work at FOX. The GOP won't pick up women by replacing the male hate-mongers with younger male hate-mongers. Kelly is their attempt to bring in a ringer who will confuse enough women into voting Republican in 2014.

Or Hanity for that matter. If they they think they solve their woman voter problem with one show on fox while taking down two of their most popular spin masters they are fooling themselves. They may spew idiocy on fox but the people running the show arent idiots.

Laura Ingraham has been subbing for Billo often of late (my neighbor watches FOX every day).

I think it's the right move for them and if I were Jolly Roger, I might have made it back when Hilary entered the ring back in the 2008 election season.

Rush and Hannity are disgusting and gross. Kelly is not. They've been grooming her for this job. She basically got her own show on election night after Rove's meltdown when she and a cameraman walked off the set and down to the Data Center to "get the facts." She got to "be a journalist" for a while and it looked great. They got the camera off of The Fuming Ham and onto the pretty lady. It works.

Doesn't seem like rocket science to me.

is going for the female demographic. And you're all too right, sadly. She could say the Earth is flat, 6,000 years old and that the Universe is heliocentric and a lot of FNC's viewers would agree.

Hell, a lot of them probably already believe the Earth is only 6,000 years old!

18. Probably losing his contract with Cumulus

They are losing piles of money because no national brand wants to be associated with them and they can't sell ads during his show (and Hannity's from what I'm reading). I know in NY it will get him off WABC which has a very strong signal that reaches far and wide and he'll have to move his show to a Clear Channel station WOR which has a much weaker signal. It'll be the same in most major cities - he'll still be on the air but on different stations.

It's about money

By DYLAN BYERS | 7/28/13 7:59 PM EDT
In a major shakeup for the radio industry, Cumulus Media, the second-biggest broadcaster in the country, is planning to drop both Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity from its stations at the end of the year, an industry source told POLITICO on Sunday.

Cumulus has decided that it will not renew its contracts with either host, the source said, a move that would remove the two most highly rated conservative talk personalities from more than 40 Cumulus channels in major markets.

(UPDATE: Limbaugh: Don't worry about Cumulus)

The decision comes after negotiations between Cumulus and Premiere Networks, the division of Clear Channel that distributes Limbaugh and Hannity's shows, broke down due to disagreements over the cost of the distribution rights, the source said. Cumulus is known to drive a hard bargain on costs, and Clear Channel is known to seek top dollar for big names.

As industry insiders caution, Cumulus and Clear Channel have come to the brink before during contract negotiations only to resume talks. But the source told POLITICO that Clear Channel was unlikely to reduce the cost for distribution rights to a level that would satisfy Cumulus.
