Protecting the Promise of America (my MLK Day keynote address)

Good late morning, all y'all. It has been too long since I've posted here at DU, but I thought some of y'all might be interested in what I've been up to lately, now that I no longer have access to the internets in my Tennessee deep holler home.

This is the YouTube link to my recent keynote address at the Martin Luther King Day celebration at the US Department of Energy/Y-12 facility in Oak Ridge, one of the most secure facilities in Tennessee. (I was recommended as the speaker by the Tennessee chapter of the NAACP, quite an honor for this eighth generation white Mississippian.) It runs around 38 minutes and the YouTube image may need to be zoomed out several times in order to see the entirety of the Powerpoint slides I used with the presentation.

The USDOE MLK Day celebration was unusually well-attended, with about four times more people there than I was told usually attended these celebrations. That may be because, in the program that was distributed to USDOE staff beforehand, the last sentence of my bio sketch read as follows:

&quot Bernie Ellis') work to promote free, fair and verifiable elections in this state and nation has resulted both in his being recommended for a Presidential Medal of Freedom and his being labeled a 'domestic terrorist' by at least one public official who wants to keep our Tennessee elections unsafe and unverifiable."

Here are two DU links re: my "domestic terrorist" designation:

Not surprising that a sentence like that would draw a crowd. The audience was very attentive and gave me a standing ovation at the end. Maybe there's hope for our democratic republic yet. I hope all y'all get a chance to view the presentation soon and that you'll pass a link to this thread around to other election integrity activists (regardless of their political leanings) that you know. Thanks for the help of some of you in preparing this talk. (Y'all know who y'all are.)

To paraphrase the old saw: How can you keep me down on the farm when I'm so worried about our democracy? Take care. Peace out. Y'all come.
