Santorum Describes Social Security & Medicare Beneficiaries as Drug Addicts Needing a Dime Bag
By NCPSSM | February 24, 2012
As we have said before, its long past time that primary voters start asking Presidential candidates very specific questions about their plans for Social Security and Medicare. So far, voters have been treated to a lot of Orwellian double-speak offered by candidates who say reform when they mean cut and preserve when they mean privatize.
While GOP Presidential candidate Rick Santorum has made his views on Social Security and Medicare clearer than mosthe wants to slash both we found a video this week that offers a terrifying view of what Santorum really thinks about Americas seniors, the disabled, survivors and their families. He sees them as nothing more than drug addicts.
In a 2010 speech at the Pennsylvania Republican State Committees annual dinner Santorum, in tones of hushed drama and fake theatrics, describes Democrats who support programs like Social Security and Medicare (including the President of the United States) as drug dealers pushing dime bags to addicts who in his worldview include middle class Americans who have the nerve to expect to collect the benefits theyve paid for.
Transcript: Ill tell you what Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama are telling me. What theyre telling me is that you may not like it now but Americans love their entitlements. And once we get you hooked on the entitlement youll never go back. Now I closed my eyes and thought, Im standing in front of the school yard with a guy and a dime bag saying once I hook you, once I numb you, once I stop you from reaching great heights and protect you from falling we got you. Well hook you. former Senator Rick Santorum

can't these people just die.
Old people are addicted to eating and breathing. Will someone think of the example they are setting for our children.
Rick Santorum reminds me of the doctor that removes the terminal cancer patient from their morphine drip because they are worried they might become an addicted.

All of them are candidates for the rubber rooms on upper floors of hospitals all over the country. Why is anyone paying heed to them?

(13,872 posts)how Mr. Santorum views me:
I'm a female, in my 60's. To him I am of no further use. I can't make babies and I'm sucking off the Government tit. The fact that I'm a fallen away Catholic and a Democrat just puts a few more nails in my coffin.

(27,461 posts)it's infuriating that they get away with this. The media always frames it as "preserving" SS and Medicare, when in fact they want to eliminate both. How much clearer could they be? Why would they want to "preserve" a program they liken to drug addiction? Why would they want to "preserve" a Ponzi scheme?

(20,582 posts)relying on SS and Medicare ... I mean, do they honestly believe so many people would be able to manage without it? Do they have alternatives worked out? The lack of empathy just seems completely amazing to me. I don't get it.
jtown1123
(3,203 posts)it won't. Elderly poverty and health insurance would skyrocket from seniors visiting ER rooms w/o insurance that they would have to recreate these programs all over again.
