Wingnuts that is.
Why is that? Because they have demonized "liberals" since the 60s and got away it - enabled by the media and liberals themselves for not standing up to what a liberal means.
But wingnuts hate the use of the word progressive because the name is as it implies - and not easily co-opted and twisted like liberal has been.
Conversely if you are against progressive causes, then well, you are the opposite.... regressive.
I know this is really not ground breaking, but I don't know if we capitalize on this really.
Imagine if elected Dems and others actually used that term. It would put them on defense and have to say what they are for. Yes that would get more "lower taxes and freedom" bullshit, but at times, when they are fighting against a progressive issue, they will get confronted on "well what's your solution"
Plus it would irritate the hell out of 'em...

(10,893 posts)but regarding the "freedom" stuff that the regressives spout, I always wonder why more progressives don't call them out on that. Like how can they honestly claim to be advocates of freedom when they're making it harder to vote, harder to get access to contraceptives, and harder for gay people to be together?

They want to make it impossible.
