Cop who leaked bombing suspect photos disciplined

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts State Police photographer who released photos of the bloodied Boston marathon bombing suspect during his capture has been placed on restricted duty.

Sgt. Sean Murphy leaked the photos to Boston Magazine last week, saying he wanted to counter a glamorized image of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev (joh-HAHR' tsahr-NEYE'-ehv) on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.

On Tuesday, Murphy was placed on desk duty, where he would have no contact with the public, until a further investigation is completed.

Murphy wasn't authorized to release the 14 photos, and he's already served a one-day, unpaid suspension. Some attorneys say the release of photos and Murphy's comments could be used to argue government bias against Tsarnaev.

Does this cop not realize he screwed over federal & state prosecutors by giving the Tsarnaev defense lawyers (not that they'd win) ammo? And how is it in the public interest for others to see these photos pre trial as it's already common knowledge that D. Tsarnaev was wounded on the boat?

And the Boston Globe reports: " The State Police sergeant whose unauthorized release of photos showing the capture of accused Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev brought praise and criticism appears likely to keep his job, the leader of the State Police said Tuesday."
