(10,362 posts)There have been a lot of notable kings named Henry. Henry VIII is always thought of, but Henry II was great.
Edward is good too. Except for Edward II, he was sodomized to death with a hot poker by his own subjects. Maybe not a good name after all.
Henry it is, then.

(11,012 posts)Royal Princes, especially first born Royal Princes, ALWAYS have multiple names:
The Prince of Wales - Charles Philip Arthur George
Duke of Cambridge - William Arthur Philip Louis
King George VI - Albert Frederick Arthur George
King George V - George Frederick Ernest Albert
and so on...

(41,205 posts)King George VI was given the first name Albert; and as a boy was known formally as 'Prince Albert' and in his family as 'Bertie'; it was only later on that he became known as George - which I think was the fourth of his royal names.
There are advantages in having loads of names; if you don't like your first name, you can choose the one you like, I suppose.
However, by the time this youngster is due to be king, it may be that the Brits will call the whole idea of the Monarchy 'Finished'.

(82,383 posts)Maybe a child who is not as close to being in line for the throne. Not feeling King Jason or King Justin.
They don't do the repetitive thing now with father and son having the same name, like George I, II, III. V and VI. Given the ones they recently used, they may go with John or James as not having been used in a while.
JenniferJuniper
(4,510 posts)a bit historically cursed. The last Prince John was an uncle of Queen Elizabeth who was an epileptic and hidden away by the family until he died as a young teen. Diana supposedly wanted to name her oldest John but the royals nixed it. James is a possibility, but when I hear "King James" I expect "Bible" to follow.
But it'd nice to see them step out of the box and skip the George Henry Philip Albert Arthur stuff for once. Something like Alexander maybe.
treestar
(82,383 posts)Didn't know of that Prince John. The Magna Carta guy didn't fare too well but that's long ago now.
Richard will never be rehabilitated.
I notice they used Henry (Prince Harry) sort of close to the throne, but it's been a while since Henry VIII and in modern times there's not much risk he would end up on the throne!
It would be cool if they go outside the box though. Simple English names but not used by royals before, like Matthew or Kenneth or Peter.
