This is me, interviewing Congressman John Lewis, (D-GA-5) today at Comicon international before he adressed about 350 people, it was a full room, regarding the release of "March." This details his life, and it is a trilogy of his life and the civil rights movement through his eyes. It is being released by Top Shelf.
Now that we are home, from Comicon, I can work on that story to send to the East County Magazine, and we also have sound for KNSJ radio. We spoke of not just the graphic novel, but also the present and how the present is connected to the past. Such as the murder of Emmett Till and the murder of Trayvon Martin... and the continuity of it. I touched on a few other issues. Now to work with me... I got two stories to write now.
The other was my local Susan Davis

(2,574 posts)to meet & interview John Lewis! Wonderful news about the movie "March." especially cogent and timely movie release in the wake of SCOTUS' VRA Repeal and current Republican national war against the right to vote.

(154,021 posts)a trilogy to be exact
The first book in the trilogy was released (well will be released in a month). Today they had the preview copies, and they will be signing them today and tomorrow.
The panel was incredible, by the way.

(154,021 posts)we knew we had to do it, so yes, I had two days to mull over questions.
As I said bellow, being a historian by training, and having had a college instructor who was a freedom rider and had to leave the South... well, all that helped to formulate the questions.

(4,400 posts)Did you ask him about the 'John Lewis Voting Rights Act'?
nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)I asked my local congresswoman that though.
To be honest, I asked so many other heavy questions that it slipped my mind. So yes, thank you to an audience member for asking that... whoever you are. We got sound.
Yes touched on NSA, and drew back to the FBI tracking of MLK, as well as Trayvon Martin/Emmet Till. The last one I am happy I asked. I did not realize just how much Till's murder affected him, you could say it was life changing.
I still should transcribe the interview before I write the article. It is not that long so why not?
Sometimes having a history degree helps... a lot. I could have done just the how excited are you that this graphic novel is coming out? Orange County Register emphasized that aspect. I asked about it, as the opening softball

(154,021 posts)usually when we record press conferences, or anything else... you can pick a few choice quotes and be done with it.
Here, I am having trouble shortening quotes to paper blurbs... I knew Lewis was extremely well spoken and careful with language, but damn, so many GOOD quotes to make a point.

Did not transcribe it today, no time...but will have to...and print it out too. Anything like this is the first, maybe second draft of history.
