Any suggestions on how we can slow this place down a gear?

Sometimes it goes so fast that I miss a lot of good posts. I guess it is a good thing that so many people are expressing their opinions?

But I would not want to see DU become like Huffington Post. I tried posting there a couple of times and the posts moved so fast that you could not even follow your own posts. In fact, you couldn't even find them. It was a wasted effort - pearls before the swine.

This is no big deal but wanted some posters to know that their threads are not being ignored as much as just moved along too quickly.

It's too bad that really relevant and important posts run their course in 24 hours or less. Some topics deserve a little more time, in my opinion. It would be nice to have the "top threads of the week" in their own discussion group.

If you go to Greatest Page, the posts are sorted by most recs on one side and sorted by time on the other side.

It would make it so there are less threads to go though, and make the one you are interested in easy to find.

I realize a lot of people are too lazy to search before posting a thread, but I think I see a lot of people who have a thread and post it 2-3 times themselves.

Funny though.

Disinformation is the mind-killer.
Disinformation is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face Disinformation .
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the Disinformation has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

against fear and substituted Disinformation for Fear. Just trying to forward the conversation by extending the metaphor (so to speak).

He made some more serious changes to the Mentat Mantra.

At that point there was just the 2 of us on this sub thread, and I had my doubts that anyone else would recognize the Mantra for themselves.

As well as the additional exposure the movies got, which also renewed interest in Herbert's books. I think many here are familiar with the books, the movies, or both.

A lot of the posts in the last week have been massively redundant. Not reposts. But yet somebody else reiterating essentially the same thing for the 4th time. Again.

Hide threads if it helps. I keep mine sorted by start time.

I'm guilty of it too. Those who make OP after OP only meant to distract or deny or eat up bandwidth -- the rest of us might just ignore them, not take the bait, and let the OP sink like an old donut.

You could make a rec or a comment on your first response, but not both. That would prevent posts from jumping back to the top too quickly and would also prevent posts from going to the bottom too fast. Of course, there may need to be a 5-minute timer on responses or recs? But maybe that would be too "slow"? Just trying to give everyone an even shake.

But that idea is at odds with my opinion that having no unrec or an equivalent "thumbs down" option means there is no "No" vote. Only yes and abstain.

None of that answers your question of course.

I would suggest as others have: hide by keyword.
